Meeting Transcript
And honestly, I can remember probably around 2019 when you first came down to the Board of Commissioners and said, Hey, it's time we do something. So today, for many of us that are here, this has been a long journey, and it is a continuing journey because we're not done yet. But we are very excited because I have the legislation that we've been working on. So you come on over, and we want to say, I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you because people like you that continue to show up, and all of our red shirts and all of the purple shirts and all of those who show up to say, hey, this is important, it really matters, and we're grateful for each and every one of you. I always have to adjust everything down to a little lower level. And so a lot of what I was gonna say has been said today, and hopefully I can keep it short. Ha. Um I'm here at first as a longtime volunteer for Lifeline, but then also as a representative of advocates for DeCab animals. And we're thrilled to be celebrating this new pet neighborhood opening today. It's a first step in addressing first the overcrowding of our shelter, but also the pet overpopulation in our county, which is a problem. I don't want to miss this opportunity to thank all of our elected officials and their appointees, whether they're city or county, for supporting us. I'm not gonna name names, we've kind of done that. Um but I also want to highlight that there's more work to be done. And DeCAB has the opportunity to be a leader in animal welfare, and I think we can do that if we all work together. I want to also acknowledge Lifeline and the DeCAB Center staff for working and managing that overcrowded shelter really since 2017, the year it opened, it started to get overcrowded. And I also want to acknowledge the volunteers and the staff who have dealt with animals too big in.
