1:07

1:08

I didn't pay a motion.

1:10

So moved.

1:12

1:13

Second.

1:14

You just told me that.

1:45

Okay, Jay.

And yes, now we have some claims.

1:59

I think we can do all the interview raters for one.

2:04

Okay.

2:05

Um, Mr.

2:06

President, I move to approve uh or to pay uh the promotional interviewers, raters, Hayden, Dowd, and Funk at 1500 apiece.

Aye.

2:40

We also have from the testing company.

2:47

That's ISP, right?

2:49

I was saying because of public safety that they operate.

2:54

Okay.

2:58

That's development and administration on the test and proper point.

3:03

Okay.

3:04

Is that the chief captain and inspector?

3:06

Yeah.

3:07

All rolled into one.

3:08

Okay.

3:08

And then like whenever it says development, so did they have to create something new?

3:11

Uh for us.

3:12

Uh depends on the weather books are used.

3:14

So they think we we select what books are used, and then they will take questions from those books.

3:23

I'd entertain a motion to pay the $26,600 for promotional testing.

3:28

So moved.

3:29

Second.

3:30

Second.

3:31

All right.

3:43

Sorry, I was looking at you.

3:46

It wasn't it wasn't enthusiastic at all.

3:48

So we need to sign off.

3:53

That seems like a lot of money.

3:55

For 26,000.

3:57

Come up.

3:58

Good question.

3:58

Come up with this.

4:10

Good evening.

4:12

Evening.

4:13

Probably firefighter update.

4:15

They are three weeks to go in fire training portion for the first recruit class.

4:21

On May 29th, three of those individuals will go into the fire stations because they already have their EMT National Registry certifications.

4:30

On June 1st, the remaining four will join with the next recruit class class of nine to begin the EMT portion of the recruit academy.

4:41

Discipline.

4:42

In the last month, there was one coaching given for conduct of becoming.

4:47

There was one coaching given for neglect of duty, loss of equipment.

4:51

And there was a second coaching given for neglect of duty loss of equipment.

4:56

And promotions, I couldn't remember if I gave you these.

5:00

Go ahead.

5:01

Can you expand on the loss of equipment?

5:04

Certainly.

5:07

A full complement of EMS equipment to include oxygen medical bag and uh automatic external defibrillators were left on a sidewalk after a incident.

5:20

And it was reported by a neighbor when they saw a bypass a passer by pick up the AED and take off, never to be seen again.

5:30

So we lost a $6,000 piece of equipment permanently.

5:35

Thank you.

5:36

I want to put an air tag on those.

5:41

Um promotions.

5:42

I can't remember if I gave you these promotions the last time.

5:44

I know that these promotions actually occurred after, but I can't remember if I gave you these in preemptively.

5:50

But just in case, uh Brian Studi was promoted to captain on April 18th.

5:56

Mike Wilson was promoted to lieutenant on April the 18th.

6:00

Daniel Ice was promoted to lieutenant on April 22nd.

6:05

And Matthew Mastison was promoted to temporary captain on April 22nd.

6:12

One of my favorite positions.

6:14

I knew you'd hold that one near and dear.

6:16

And that is all I have.

6:18

Chief, I enjoy whoever runs the social media for the fire department.

6:21

Just seeing the posting and the pictures like that, I really appreciate that.

6:24

It lets the community know what's kind of going on there.

6:25

So whoever's doing that, if you can give them a kudos for me.

6:28

I will.

6:30

Is it done there?

6:32

Oh, I didn't know that.

6:33

Okay, well, whoever does it, they do a great job.

6:35

She has great at it.

6:39

Okay.

6:44

I don't see any here.

6:47

Okay.

6:48

Seeing none.

6:48

Well, we'll move on.

6:52

Under new business, we have to certify three lists today.

6:55

That's what everybody's been waiting on.

7:00

I want to do this like we've done it before.

7:02

We'll read off the candidates' numbers so we have it on the record of those who uh ask me about it.

7:08

I told them to watch and make four show up and review it.

7:11

Okay.

7:12

I figure they can go by.

7:14

Yeah.

7:14

I'm sure they all know which ones they are.

7:16

Man, there's a lot in here.

7:22

Who's getting promoter?

7:24

Let's go.

7:27

So where they are.

7:29

So the inspector.

7:31

7:33

We'll start with captain.

7:36

7:38

Should be in our paper in the front as the seller.

7:41

7:43

You signed it there.

7:44

You had to look for it, didn't you?

7:45

7:46

We'll rank and candidate number list.

7:49

7:50

I can't remember everything.

7:54

7:55

7:57

10:03

God, I guess I better check this one.

10:05

Oh boy.

10:06

Before we end up with a realness.

10:13

That was ranked right.

10:14

This one's scrambled, so I'm gonna have to look through it a little bit.

Entertain a motion.

12:31

Anyway.

12:36

Okay.

12:36

Do we have a second?

12:44

All those in favor of approving the battalion chiefs list signify by saying aye.

12:49

And opposed.

12:50

Carries.

12:55

It's a much better process.

12:56

I think it's cleaner.

13:01

Okay.

13:01

And before I do anything done with all this, see if I can make it fit back in there.

13:39

Okay.

13:51

Okay.

13:52

Is there any other new business to be brought before the commission?

13:57

I guess before we get to any old business of the union have anything nope okay and now under old business uh since we've discussed this several times over and I guess never really got an answer from them apparently the Vanderburg County Sheriff's Offices decided that we had overtime issues for them that we didn't need to pay and were there any of these that were also other meetings going on we do we know do they know that I have not looked into to see if there are other meetings going on uh right off the top of my head I don't believe there are other meetings that happen on the at this time on Tuesdays.

14:35

Okay um so if we're a minute over we pay for a half an hour it looks to be that way and what do you think two I believe I documented the the time the meetings were we're out or dismissed or my question is like does that mean we have to exit the building at no I think our meeting just needs to be over by before 4 30 otherwise we will screw some overtime and how is it then that when we leave we never see any deputies down there that we're paying uh that's a good question it might be because we linger they might wait for the to end and as soon as it's over they leave I'm not real sure.

15:15

Okay.

15:19

They could be watching it on Granicus or they could go back go back and look at the notes of the minutes and they could determine what time the meeting is out.

15:26

Which would be fine if they actually stayed while we were here so we need to probably and I'm sure we're going to be stuck paying this one so but we need to find out for sure that how much is it uh the grand total is 270 dollars and 76 cents and that's for uh where are we going through here one two three four five that's about six.

15:46

I believe I think it was the first quarter.

15:48

Okay.

15:51

Oh okay it's three months it's they're giving us each individual officer because we have to pay for two yes because there's the two entrances okay so I guess we need to pay it.

16:12

Yeah I haven't even submitted anything for it I I just got that and I was like I wanted to bring it to your attention that that we are now we did receive a bill for it for the overtime charges.

16:23

So next month there'll be uh it'll be on the claims all right so you'll have a claim for us and we'll at least know why we have a claim all right and then next month we'll have another quarter done so we'll have another claim better hurry up then.

16:37

I'm trying I'm trying folks yeah you need to get a talk anymore you've got to go to the meeting goes at 4 31 I think we have to pay for two officers at is it $50 an hour I forget what it is.

16:52

6380 6380 6380 well for that one so that's uh it determines if it's a lieutenant or if it's a patrolman or whatever I guess they're just deputy but um yeah there's a meeting two you make sixty three eighty we're just gonna I don't know that's not like it doesn't mean they don't have like all three right five thirty sources are they plan over time for every meeting until it goes to 4 30 until eight I also don't know that okay well we'll look in oh this one we'll look into it and I just don't see us chief thanks for moving to our attention moving the meetings up or anything so okay any other old business that anybody has seeing there is a reminder under other business that we have a special meeting on May the 26th is that right at 0900 and it's in this room and it'll be in yeah 307 and then the next regular meeting will be June the 9th at 4 o'clock in this room.

18:08

Oh 45 you're right.

18:11

You might have to go to 3 30, yes.

18:13

We're good around noon you know we're gonna work in lunch.

18:16

Okay.

18:16

Does anybody else have any other business to bring before the commission at this time?

18:21

Has there been any any any changes uh related to the issue with um on the meeting on May 26th, Council?

18:29

Anybody chief anything?

18:30

Nothing.

18:31

Okay, okay.

18:32

All right, thank you.

18:33

Uh City Attorney will be getting us some information in advance.

18:38

Will we be getting any advanced information from the city attorney?

18:40

I thought he said he was going to send us some paperwork on the presentation, discovery, whatever.

18:46

So we might need to check with him, and I haven't seen anything yet.

18:50

So yeah, I'll I'll get we we have hired a counsel for the information, so I'll get with him and okay.

19:01

All right.

19:02

Well, seeing and hearing no other new business, I would entertain a motion to adjourn.

19:06

Quick.

19:10

So moved.

19:12

Second.

19:12

Okay.

19:13

All those in favor signify by saying aye.

19:15

Aye.

19:16

Opposed.

19:17

Motion carries.

On May 29, three individuals will move to fire stations (they already have EMT National Registry certification). On June 1, the remaining four will join the next recruit class of nine to begin the EMT portion.
  • Discipline: Three coachings were given in the last month: one for conduct unbecoming, and two for neglect of duty/loss of equipment. The latter involved a full complement of EMS equipment (oxygen, medical bag, AED) left on a sidewalk after an incident; a passerby stole the AED, resulting in a permanent loss of a $6,000 piece of equipment.
