All right.

8:41

Moving on.

8:42

Item D.

8:44

Any other business the board wishes to consider?

8:47

And are there any public comments?

8:53

Come on, yep.

8:55

Please state your name, address for us.

8:58

Yes, yep.

9:00

Okay.

9:01

Um, I asked a question about the handout.

9:04

Uh, Gabe Correjo addresses 702 on Greencoat Avenue.

9:08

Um, I actually have a handout that goes along with my little three-minute presentation.

9:12

Is that alright to provide you all?

9:17

Thank you.

9:20

All right, thank you.

9:21

Thank you, Sarah.

9:22

Thank you, sir.

9:27

Thank you.

9:27

So sorry, this is about Metzparts Zoo and the tokens.

9:39

So I was in the paddle boats last week, kind of having a fun time out there, right?

9:44

And I noticed that it cost me five dollars to purchase five tokens, but three tokens to take the paddle boats.

9:51

So I had two tokens left over, which I couldn't figure out what to do with myself with those two tokens.

9:57

So if you look at you know the pricing structure and uh the tokens and what you can purchase for the experience within the Metzger part, I didn't really have a value, so I took these home.

10:08

It takes probably 25 cents to produce these tokens.

10:12

So in terms of your capital expenditure, I just kind of stole 50 cents from the zoo.

10:18

And in order to replace the five tokens so that they go back into circulation, you have to produce two more tokens, which is another 50 cents.

10:28

So now you have the five tokens back in circulation, ready to be issued through the token machines.

10:34

So sorry, I'm a little nervous.

10:36

The concept is you're kind of bleeding money in little areas uh around the token system, I think, including where if I wanted to then use I'm out of breath.

10:49

If I wanted to take these two tokens and then buy two more to feed the giraffes, because those are four tokens, um, that's two more credit card transactions.

11:00

That's like seven cents per transaction for me to go get one more dollar from you all.

11:05

So that's three credit card transactions that you're probably not collecting and noticing in your budgets.

11:12

It's hidden, and so are the operational costs to replace the two tokens that I've just took home.

11:18

That's a I think a novelty expenditure within the budget as well.

11:23

So the idea is towards the end is you restructure the token monetization offerings and then add value.

11:32

So it becomes a multiple of three of three, excuse me.

11:37

So I don't buy five tokens, I buy six.

11:41

Um, and then the budgie bird, the um carousel, that becomes a two for one.

11:47

So for three tokens, I get to go on either one, or I can go on both as a child.

11:53

I get a stamp that has two opposite stamps.

11:57

And then I have three tokens left, and I can go back on the um pedal tavern or pedal pedal boats.

12:04

But as you can see, um you've reclaimed all six tokens.

12:08

The opera the capital cost of creating the token to go back into the pool is eliminated.

12:15

The credit card transaction to then allow me to have a better experience and more value in the token, it's gone.

12:23

99% of your credit card transactions are gone.

12:26

95% of your capital expenditures of creating the tokens are gone.

12:30

I've also put um a picture of what the buttons would look like, representative six, twelve, and eighteen instead of five, ten, and twenty as they are today.

12:41

So each um token experience becomes a little bit different.

12:48

The uh penguin, you're paying five tokens, you get one herring.

12:52

I have two kids, I don't want to spend two dollars.

12:54

I actually don't have two kids.

12:55

But if I'm a parent, I'm not gonna spend $10.

12:58

But if you tell me for six tokens, I get two herrings, I'm gonna give you those tokens.

13:04

It costs a dollar for a herring.

13:06

That's an easy win, right?

13:07

And then you get all the capital expenditure associated with producing these tokens back.

13:12

I don't leave with them.

13:13

The take home token problem is gone.

13:16

Um, and kind of the um other idea here is you know, improving the value for your patrons without doing a whole lot of heavy lifting or investment, and it's more of kind of a capital expenditure, operating expenditure, looking at their experience and then how you can add value.

13:33

I'm so nervous.

13:34

Sorry.

13:34

So that's my presentation.

13:35

Uh enjoy the handout and it might be a good idea.

13:39

Uh, it might not be.

13:40

I just want to get it out there.

13:41

Thank you.

13:43

Thank you.

13:46

All right, thank you.

13:47

We would take a look, uh take it on our advisement and then uh consult with the zoo staff, see how far we can go with this.

13:54

Appreciate it.

13:56

Any other comments from uh the public.

14:04

All right.

14:05

Here in the scene we do not have reports today so I will entertain a motion to accept payroll and vendor claims.

14:14

Second.

14:15

All in favor aye against motion carries we're adjourned.

14:21

Thank you.

14:28

I do want to do it thank you very much.

Summary of Proceedings

Evansville Parks Commissioners Meeting, July 15, 2026

The Evansville Board of Parks Commissioners held a regular meeting on July 15, 2026, to approve routine items, open sealed bids for three park projects, and hear public comment regarding token pricing at Mesker Park Zoo. No reports were presented.

Consent Calendar

  • Unanimously approved meeting memorandum from July 1.
  • Approved and executed skating professional agreements with independent skating instructors George Ann Griffin and Actinson.
  • Approved and executed a user group agreement with Tri-State Hockey Academy for Swanna Ice Arena.
  • Approved and executed an agreement with Tri-State Spartans for Swanna Ice Arena.

Public Comments & Testimony

  • Gabe Correjo (702 Greencoat Avenue) presented a three-minute handout and verbal proposal to restructure Mesker Park Zoo’s token system. He argued that buying 5 tokens for $5 but needing 3 tokens for paddle boats leaves patrons with useless tokens, forcing them to buy more and generating excessive credit card transaction fees. He estimated token production costs at $0.25 each and noted that patrons who take tokens home cost the zoo capital expenditures to replace them. He proposed changing token denominations to multiples of 3 (6, 12, 18 tokens) to allow complete use of all tokens, reduce credit card transactions by 99%, and eliminate 95% of token capital expenditure. He also suggested offering 2 herrings for 6 tokens as a better value for families.
