Meeting Transcript
All right, good evening. I'd like to call the April eleventh, two thousand twenty-four meeting of the Greenville City Council Order. I'm Mayor PJ Connelly of your presiding over tonight's meeting. First, I'd like to call on Councilmember Tanya Foreman for the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. All right, if we could bow our heads. Hello, everyone, and we are here because we are pleased to welcome the North Pitt High School Girls basketball team, our two A State Champions. Congratulations, ladies. And just to give everyone a good idea of all that they have accomplished, I want to share a few points. In addition to being the statewide two A champs, the team finished this year 29-3. They have won Eastern Plains Conference Championship two years in a row. And senior Miss Zameria. Zamaria. I knew that. I knew that. Jones, step forward so they'll know who you are. Is a McDonald's all-American, has been ranked in the top 25 in the nation by ESPN and has signed with NC States. Didn't I tell you he was gonna wear that tie? Freshman Miss Jordan Speller. She's not here. Okay. Well, she is ranked top 25 in ESPN's class of 2027. The team has always this is the best part, okay. The team has also won the state award for the highest GPA with a GPA of over 3.45. Whoa. Beauty and brains, okay. So we thank you all for coming tonight and to allow us to be in the greatness of your um presence um and for your coaches, principal, and all of you and all the good work that you've done, and we have our certificates. Some some didn't show up. That's okay. We're gonna get there. Coach Steve Staten. Y'all related. I knew that. There you go. Coach, oh, never mind. Coach Erica Lightfoot. Coach Misha Frost. Oh gosh, you okay. This is Mr. Antoine, Mr. Antoine Pittman. I should let you go through them first, so we could have got some out the way. Zion of Lightfoot. Is that the carrier Jones? Okay. That is it. Um, and our mayor, would you like to say a few words? Congratulations, we are so proud of you guys. It's it's incredible. It's always good to have champions, but I think uh Mayor Pro Town said it best too. I think one of the most impressive things is the fact that you guys had such a high GPA, which means that you're doing it on the court and you're doing the classroom, and so that's gonna take you even further in life.
