Discussion Items
- Fire Glove Contracts (Items 060326A and 060326B): Battalion Chief Richard Cook of the Indianapolis Fire Department presented two types of fire gloves selected after an extensive wear trial involving over eight different glove types. The first, Lion V Force gloves, is a two-year contract with Fire Acquisition Company LLC (formerly Phoenix Outfitters) not to exceed $200,000. The second, Dragonfire gloves, is a two-year contract with Waterway Twin Tier LLC also not to exceed $200,000. Chief Cook explained the differences: the Lion V Force offers greater dexterity for handling hose, while the Dragonfire is more padded and preferred for extrication. The current glove cost is $110–$140 per pair, up from $79 eight years ago. Both contracts were approved unanimously.
- Property Transfer (Item 060326C): The board approved the transfer of the former Fire Station 32 at 6332 North Westfield Draw from IFD to the Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) for repurposing. DMD's Pierce Kirby stated the property is on the National Register of Historic Places and that DMD plans to issue a request for proposals (RFP) with conditions to preserve its historic integrity. A cell tower lease on the property is in place until 2032 and will remain with the property. The transfer was approved unanimously.

- The property at 6332 North Westfield Draw was transferred from IFD to DMD for future disposition via RFP.
Meeting Transcript
Morning, everyone. Uh, we now have a quorum, I believe, so we will get started with the June 3rd meeting of the office of the board of the Office of Public Health and Safety. I'm Andrew Merkley, the director of the Office of Public Health and Safety. Abby, can you take the roll? Sure. Alright, he Williams. Present. Webster. Present. Great, thank you. First on our agenda this morning is item 060326A, and we'll be hearing from uh Indianapolis Fire Department. I'm battalion chief Richard Cook, run the uh quartermaster for the Indianapolis Fire Department. I always uh come with show and tell. Morning, Chief. Thank you. So I'm coming before you today to uh seek approval for a contract for both of these um styles of fire gloves that you're uh being able to handle right there. The first one is a lion V force, yes. Um after an extensive wear trial involving over eight different types of fire gloves, these two styles came out of that committee and uh were chosen to uh be our new offering department wide. So uh today I come before you to seek approval. The first one will be the Lion V force. This will be a two-year contract, not to exceed $200,000. Thank you. It will be with uh um fire acquisition company LLC formerly Phoenix Outfitters. Okay, thank you. Uh any questions or comments from the board? Chief, what what is the difference between the two two gloves there? Um, the things that we try to look for are uh flexibility and hand. You would notice if you put those gloves on, one is going to limit your flexibility in your joints. One is more padded than the other, which gives you an offering for extrication and those types of things. It's usually preferred by a ladder company that does more things that require uh tools, um extrication, those types of things. The the V force, the first one we're voting for is more there's more dexterity in your fingers, you're able to feel better, grip things better, handle the fire hose, different things. So there's a different offering for the preference of the firefighter. Gotcha. And are these these gloves similar to what where we're using now? Um we were in a uh lion primus glove, which is um similar to the um one on the right, which is the dragon fire glove. Okay and the the fire dex glove that we were in is very similar to the V Force. Okay. Thanks. They look almost identical, but they're uh different in a few ways. Gotcha. I think you already said this, but uh the safety committee recently. Correct, yes, yeah. Okay, any additional questions, discussion? All right. Hearing none, I will uh entertain a motion to adopt item 060 326a, so move, second motion has been moved and seconded. Any other discussion? Hearing none, um I will uh all in favor. Excuse me. Uh, in favor of adopting. Thank you.
