The Historic Board of Review of Marietta, Georgia, met on August 3, 2026, at 10:30 AM. - North Park Square Banner (Kiwanis Club): Lisa Lawrence, immediate past president of the Kiwanis Club of Marietta, along with Ernie Wagner (current president) and Laura Price (Field of Flags Committee chair), presented a request to place a 14-foot-wide by 6-foot-tall banner on the fence at the corner of Root Street and North Park Square. The banner promotes the 9/11 Field of Flags ceremony (September 11, 2026) and its volunteer opportunities via a QR code. The board approved the banner with the understanding it would be removed soon after the ceremony. No variances were required.
- Choctoberfest Art Panels: A returning representative presented four vertical art boards for the fence, sponsored by SA White Oil, Hensler Financial, the City of Marietta, and the Downtown Marietta Development Authority. The board approved all four panels in a single motion.
- Atlanta Street Merit Financial Window Signage: Kevin Hogglebrook of Southern Science Systems, on behalf of Merit Financial, requested approval for white cut vinyl window graphics on two windows (each window 68x93 inches; graphic 70x40 inches, totaling approximately 45.33 square feet and 19.44 square feet). Because the graphics cover more than 50% of the window area, board approval was needed. Board members asked about the status of the main primary sign above the canopy; it had not yet been approved and was being redesigned with a smaller size. The board confirmed that the window vinyl was separate and approved the application.

Okay, I'm gonna call the meeting of the historic board of review to order. The first item are the minutes from last meeting. Second. Any other discussion? All those in favor. All right, I want to welcome our new member, Melanie Chrissie. I think everybody's met Melanie, so she's came around and introduced herself. So Melanie, we look forward to having you, sir. Thank you. Certainly improve the average age of our group, right? But anyway, you're the HBR of the future, hopefully. Wow. Okay. All right. The first thing is the North Park Square banner. Uh Kawanas Club. If you could come up and introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about the banner, please. Hi, I'm Lisa Lawrence. I'm with the Kwanas Club of Marietta. I'm the immediate past president, and I'm on the Field of Flags Committee. I have with me Ernie Wagner, the current president of our club, and Laura Price, who is the chair of the Field of Flags Committee. Part of that is uh getting volunteers to carry 2,977 flags from Kennesaw Avenue to the site. And the other part is uh the ceremony that is on September the 11th. We created these banners for the Fourth of July parade, but we would also like to use them around the city to uh notify people that it's happening so that they can come out volunteer, they'll be able to volunteer via that QR code, visit the 9-11 Field of Flags website, and also come to the ceremony. Um this is a nationally recognized ceremony, and it's one of the last few left in our country that do honor the victims of the September of the 11th attacks. What we would like to do is put that uh on the fencing at the corner of Root Street and North Park Square. Um, as you will see, uh that fencing area, the lighter colored fence is almost exactly 14 feet. Um we would love to put that banner on that site so it would be very visible to those that are visiting the square so that uh the field of flags could benefit from uh people going to the website clicking on the QR code. The banner is 14 feet wide and six feet tall. It is the exact one that you saw in the previous photo. Um, and that's what we would like to put up on that corner, and we would love your permission. We would put it up, of course, upon approval, and then it would be down shortly after September the 11th. Um, as the ceremony is on that day. I can't promise you that it'll be September the 11th, but within a couple of days to take that down. The flags will also uh all be on display through September the 19th. Okay. Any questions? anybody? I think one of our members is a flag assembler. I signed up to carry. More than one. So I'll have to disclose that I took that picture. It is a very nice picture, and I thought Johnny might appreciate it. Wasn't gonna say anything about that legally, but uh thank you for Shelby. Are there any variances required?
