Yes.
Committee member Antra Pardswatch.
Present.
Vice Chair Carol Donahue.
Here.
Chair David Garcia.
Here.
Committee member Valerie Fenwick.
Here.
We are all present.
Okay, on to item three, minutes approval from, and this will be for all of our,
it will be defined the current agenda, minutes and drafts.
So city of Mountain View minutes and drafts,
forming our committee will be November 19th, 2025.
Valerie, I've read the minutes.
They match what I remember.
They look accurate.
and deep and deep in detail.
So I have motion to approve.
I second the motion.
Any discussion?
Okay.
Give us...
All in paper?
Aye.
Aye.
I. S. Unanimously. Excellent. Okay. Item four, oral communication from the public. This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons with the committee on any matter, not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes. State law prohibits the committee from acting on agenda items.
Do we have any comments from the public, I know, or online?
Nothing online.
Yes.
Yes.
Okay, yes.
Yes.
Hello.
Welcome.
Hi.
two or three minutes
my name is
Malaylee I come here
representing kind of artists and musicians
in Mountain View
we've had like a local scene that's been slowly
but surely growing since the pandemic
and it has kind of hit
like I don't know if a tipping point
but boiling point I know you guys
we all met at the open mic at Red Rock Coffee
and it
feels like a pop play there at this point
because there's so many people who are out there
showing up
But there's a group of us who are really looking to, for lack of a better term, go pro and to do more.
But it's kind of hard to be a musician nowadays.
It's not like it's necessarily the easiest.
But with the closure of venues and the lack of that being like a viable business model, it's hard to find places to perform to kind of get your your reps up in order to develop.
You'll just get more fans and that's where you can just go out and play.
um so uh i came here and i've been talking to my friends here just because i know that you guys
exist and i was like oh performing arts committee to kind of open up a dialogue about um kind of
like if there's knowing what your guys is uh plans and goals are seeing if there's a way to
align that or even just to be like hey we're here what's up we're both see us if you're on the street
and say hey you know um and uh yeah i know i've read that there are guys trying to find more
things to do with the second stage i think it is in that theater um it's a really cool space
for a lot of us is looking at um a recording space is something that we could always use
a performance space is something that we could always use um and especially with like being able
to do we do a lot of stuff do it yourself bootstrapped we're looking for getting a leg up
in terms of not just doing stuff.
I mean, we've recorded stuff on the street
in San Jose at three in the morning
and they're watching the parking garage above us
and we have to share down the equipment really quick.
And we'd like to graduate beyond that level
and do something more.
So that is kind of the basis as to why we are here.
That's my introductory remark.
Anyone else from the public wishes?
And then as a reminder also too,
the committee cannot respond
on any non-agenda items right now,
but it's also wonderful.
Totally, yeah, yeah.
So yeah, just kind of going off of what Malili said, like we have one of the projects that we're working on is called Sets in the City.
And it's been up and running for a while now.
You say that again, what in the city?
Sets.
Sets in the City.
So yeah, I know.
I was like S-E-T-S.
But yes, it is obviously a play on that name.
But it's basically, you know, we find and invite artists locally from the Mountain View and South Bay area.
and um you know we've done several professional recordings of live music here where we bring a
musician and um you know we've we've done it on caster seat we've done a couple of san jose and
we'd like to do more um but you know something things like that where we market on youtube and
we look for um views and subscribers and we want to make it you know a bigger platform that
mountain view can kind of have this legacy of like wow you know we have these musicians and
we have this platform and kind of grow that image within the city as well. So that's one thing we're
looking at, you know, sort of expanding, hoping as we're going pro to be able to kind of bring that
professional thing with us. And yeah, I definitely have some examples I can play, like a couple of
the videos we've taken, but they're very high quality. And so it would, you know, really give
back to the city culture as well, and also uplift the community and find ways to put this together.
So that's one thing we're really excited about and hoping to have some support.
I'm not sure if you're going to be able to respond, but one thing I do want to understand is your guys' goals.
And if you were to, we have many ideas for projects and many things we're doing.
And if you were to fund some of the things we're doing, what would you be looking for as a return or something like that?
you know, whether it's vibrancy in the city or youth engagement or financial return, I'm not sure.
So I do want to understand what the goals of this committee and the city are so that we can make sure that things we propose are mutually beneficial.
Awesome. Thank you. Thank you.
Yeah, so we can't respond to any non-agenda item right now, but also they can always contact us for more information in the center.
what is the best contact information?
So contact me, Teresa, T-H-E-R-E-S-A,
Yvonne, Y-V-O-N-N-E, at MVCPA.com.
MVCPA.
Perfect.
Yeah.
And I think...
But just information is okay.
Like the Second Stage Vitality program is forthcoming,
and I think that will be of interest to you guys.
So thank you for the comment.
I think we can say we'd love I would love to see some of your videos.
We can't take action on anything brought up today, but, you know, sharing of information.
Part of public comment. So I'll absolutely send over.
Yeah. And then I can share with the community. Absolutely.
Yeah. Thank you for your passion about the arts.
Can I make one more comment?
Because I was at Red Rock not too long ago
and it was so full up there.
Oh my God.
There's a bowl of names that they choose from
and at the end of the night, it's still like half full.
Yeah.
Like so many people don't get to go up
and there's a limited number of slips for the next time.
So it is popping off.
It's too many people.
But it's great.
Is our work plan sent in up?
And that's available for a public record as well.
It is available for public record.
So each committee does have, yes, so we also have our work plan, which will detail some of the professional stuff.
It is on the city website, on the Performing Arts Committee webpage.
You can view the work plan online.
Great.
Good.
Awesome.
You can stick around.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Any other comments from...
Thank you for coming.
It's nice to have company.
Of course.
And no one is on Zoom at the moment?
Just one person, but no hands raised.
Excellent.
Okay.
So we are going to move on to item five, unfinished business, none. Great. Item six, new business, 6.1, election of new officers. So we have to nominate and elect a chair and vice chair.
question on the last city committee I was on by tradition and I know we don't have to
know part of that's rule about it um so I share when it becomes
often will stand to become fair right if they were interested okay traditionally yeah
um that's how you became chair what you were vice chair yes exactly um okay great
do i have nominations for chair we'll start with or do we should we start with chair and then vice
yes yes and then and then chair gets elected then they do vice chair great okay i don't know i'm
I second that nomination if Carol is willing to serve.
I'm willing to serve.
Discussion?
I guess we see if there's any other...
Call for a vote first.
Oh, okay.
Oh, no, you made a motion.
I think we have a second.
I made a motion?
Yeah, so we have discussion now, right?
Discussion.
Yes, Carol.
was a nomination.
Now we need to call for him.
Technically, you should call for him.
I think we just do a nomination.
I thought I nominated.
Sorry, backwards.
I think we're okay.
I think we can do discussion.
You're correct, Attara.
Sorry.
I was the last person who spoke.
My question is, because I remember
there was a little confusion last year about when
you're terming out how long? At the end of this year. So end of 26. Yeah. So then you would just
be the chairperson from here to end of 26. Yeah, one-year term. So there are always one-year
terms. Every January there's an election for chair and vice chair. It's possible to be
re-nominated chair.
But I think at the end of this year,
my time at PAC will be
over.
So
the plan is, I believe everyone in this room will be here
for all of this year. Yes, she doesn't
term out until January of 27.
Okay.
And I would just like to say, I think it's a yes.
So with discussion wise, I think we have someone who is stepping into or who has been nominated
for a tier person in a capacity that has done a lot of work with the Performing Arts Committee
and with the 35th anniversary coming up, has a great amount of knowledge in order to support
the legacy of the Performing Arts Center, the community, and also knowledge of the committee,
continuity for the committee moving forward.
So this is something that I am grateful for.
Shall we take a vote?
Any other discussion questions?
Okay, all in favor for nominating Carol Donahue
as chairperson for the Premier Arts Committee.
Aye.
Yes, I can vote for myself.
Yes, yes you can.
Just unanimously.
Now you have a gavel.
Now you have a gavel.
Watch it.
Don't think too far.
Okay, well, thank you everyone.
Yeah, PAC's been near and dear to my heart for a number of years.
So anyway, I appreciate this honor.
So now we need to nominate Vice Chair.
Are there any nominations for Vice Chair?
Are there any volunteers for Vice Chair?
I would be interested, but I'll be interested in something else too.
Traditionally, on other committees I've served on, and I think also for city council, it's some of the newer members.
So we have three new members here.
Yes.
It's a nice training position.
Thank you.
So I have a question.
Like, are you allowed to re-nominate yourself?
How does it work?
I guess, but I'm not going to.
Well, you're not.
So, but yes, I think so.
I think you could.
Yeah, I could.
I just wanted to know.
Yeah.
What are the responsibilities?
For the responsibility for vice chairs, when the chair is, if this was your question, when the chair is not available or to run the meeting, then the vice chair would take the position of chair.
It's an opportunity to, again, lead in a different capacity.
Unknown caller.
Answer it.
I'm willing to stand if others don't.
And another city committee was fun.
So do I have a nomination?
Sure, I nominate Valerie.
Do we have a second?
I will second.
Okay.
We have a vote.
It's all in favor of Valerie Fenwick,
Vice Chair.
Aye.
Yay.
Yay.
You want the front of the table?
Pardon me?
You want the front of the table?
She has the gavel.
I know.
She has the gavel.
That's all that matters.
I might have practiced with the gavel.
That's okay.
Swing hard.
So I was chair when the pandemic happened.
And then we were on Zoom.
They didn't mail you the gavel.
And so I had the stupid gavel.
And then I'm sort of the first couple Zoom meetings, I did it.
And I thought, it's just ridiculous.
So it's been a while.
um quarterly okay so moving along to 6.2 quarterly or i'm sorry before we move along we still need
technically a motion in a second for item 6. oh that's right just to confirm if i share and chair
and then oh yeah right because we not made it but we still have to motion in a second
I move to elect
committee member Donna Hugh as
just vice chair?
I move to elect
committee member Donna Hugh as chair and committee
member Valerie Fenwick as vice chair.
How is that different than voting?
The words, the law.
Oh, yeah, I need to second that motion.
Okay, let's vote on the candidate slate for the officer slate, whatever.
Yeah.
Bye.
Bye.
I knew I should have looked over my reports from the wall.
I know.
The little booklet.
The little booklet.
I have it.
It's a big booklet.
Yep.
Okay, 6.1 being concluded, we'll move on to 6.2, the quarterly impact report recommendation,
no action taken. Performing Arts Manager Teresa Yvonne will provide an update regarding the
Center for the Performing Arts, quarter two October, November, and the impact report for
the 2025-26 season and we have a set.
This is the attachment that we're looking at.
And we separated them upon request from the last meeting to main stage and second stage.
So that we can kind of look at those.
I will tell you that there's one more step that I'm going to do here.
I want the percentages separated also so that we're looking at the percentages from main
stage and percentages from second stage right now it's all totaled together so which is fine i want
that also but i want them separated and then together so that we can but as you can see um
you know philharmonic baroque orchestra they are a um client that has come back they've been with
this gosh i want to say it was probably 10 years ago or so it's been a minute since they've been
with us, but they've come back. New Century Dance, they're fairly new to us. I think this is their
second year. Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, longstanding. I think they've been with us for
18 years now, and they do their one concert in December. Pacific Ballet Academy, their annual
Nutcracker. Peninsula Youth Theater, Shrek the Musical. Center of the Universe, that was Silicon
Valley Twelfth Night. That was new to us. Smyoun Contemporary Ballet, the Christmas Ballet, which
is always a hit, as you can see. Quite a good attendance for that. Bear Ballet, Snow Queen this
year. Grand Kiev Ballet, Swan Lake, which that was actually a touring group that was in the area
and they came out of, they're actually from, they were from Ukraine I believe,
but their headquarters in the States is out of Washington and they
were coming down and they were going to another venue being presented and they
stopped here and rented us and on a Wednesday evening we had 491 people come
so yeah they were really good. So Jazz at the Ballroom, that's a commercial group
Swinging in the Holidays, Feiyu Theater, The Crucible, Western Ballet, The Nutcracker.
Is Feiyu new? Feiyu Theater is, I want to say this is their third year with us. They were new
when I first got here and their shows are in Mandarin. So but this is the first time they've
been on the main stage they started in second stage and um did fairly well the first time
second time they sold out their entire weekend and then they were looking to move to main stage
i think last year we didn't have any dates for them they ended up in second stage again
and then this year um we managed to get them a date from the main stage so they did they did
pretty well. Two performances, 905 and then 10 minutes. So yeah, they're actually, I mean,
I don't speak Mandarin, but I know the Crucible and you know, I popped my head in and I didn't
know what was going on. I didn't know where we're at. So they're pretty good. And then
obviously second stage, Force Measures Medium, Best of Stand-Up Comedy. They do very well.
I went to that one. Did you enjoy it? I did. I did. But I do wish people were allowed to drink a lot.
Oh, yes. Yes. We'll get there. Financially Youth Theater. These are their stories on stage.
Clever Jack takes the cake and Tetra Noel. They came back. This is their second year with us.
their shows are in Spanish
and Diaspora Arts Connection
they've been with us before but I don't think
they were here last year
I think they came back
and then Peninsula Youth Theater again
Stories on Stage, When Santa Was a Baby
and Upstage Theater
Witch
and then down below
obviously Theater Works
Little Women on the Main Stage
and Driving Beat
which was in second stage
they actually did really well
space. I saw it opening night. I thought it was, it was, it was lovely because it was a three-person
show and you were in the space and it was just very close. I thought it was very well done.
And then, of course, as I like to tout, with 28,095 folks attending over three months,
Our ancillary spending for all attendings average is $1,111,000.
Yes, that's a lot of people to spend.
Fucking life's hater.
That's one quarter.
That's good.
And then the other comment I always like to say when it comes to December,
we somehow shove, it feels like six weeks worth of shows in three weeks
that we have available in December.
it is like the buildings
just hop it. We load them
out on Sunday and load them back in on Monday.
Question
about Clever
Jack Takes the Cake. So Stories on Stage
which was the program that Peninsula
Youth Theater was highlighting for us
the last time that they were here.
What time
days is their program?
I want to say 9.30 and 11.30
in the morning on a Friday
and then they also do
Saturday
I'll say it's a Latin
Yeah, okay, morning
It's morning, yeah, it's for the schools
So it's young
folks
performing for younger folks
Just to remember
because
it was so
highly
performed
Looks like we have a hand raised on Zoom
if you'd like a question or comment?
I mean, sure.
I'm done with my research.
Hi, Lauren.
I'm Lauren.
I'm PYT's managing director,
and I'd be happy to answer any questions
you have about our Stories on Stage program.
Do you have a question about this?
No, I remember it.
Oh.
We were just asking about the times.
Yeah.
Okay.
Thank you.
Yeah, absolutely.
So no questions?
No.
We appreciate your offerings.
And I have a kind of committee question,
but I think it's probably rhetorical
but that best of SF's
comedy I think they routinely sell out
or get near sell out
and I wonder if they would be
interested in the good stage
because that's obviously a very light
load in load out
or maybe it's a different experience
comedy's maybe
better than that little state round
I don't think
as far as I know they didn't ask for the main stage
I think usually
I think in my opinion they would need to
most of these like um tetro or feiyu theater they did a weekend and sold out the weekend
thank you and then they moved to the main stage and then you know you're going to lose some folks
because now you're going down to one day one time you're going to lose some folks but they actually
maybe is it also this is their second time in the center the the yeah because i saw it
I saw that last year.
The Best of Comedy?
Yeah.
Yes, it is.
100%.
It's kind of nice, actually, because I feel like there's
a lot of different programming happening
that we had in quarter two.
So along with the traditional stuff that we've had,
something about it stands out to me compared to last year's.
Are any of these the results of recently open dates?
Possibly October.
I mean, yeah, but not to the extent that it will be this next season.
OK.
Well, it sounds pretty encouraging.
Any other comments?
So moving along to seven committee staff announcements, updates, requests, and committee reports.
No action will be taken on questions raised by the committee at this time.
Are there any staff announcements?
I do have a couple staff announcements.
I wanted to kind of update you guys a little bit on the Second Stage Vitality Program.
My intention is to have that finalized and not put things in my opinion.
I just need a little more time.
Holidays just ran as ragged, and then January was like here.
I was like, oh, that's in weeks.
Never mind.
so my apologies for that and then I have another announcement to let you guys know
Alondra has actually this is her last meeting with us oh no I know I know we're all very sad
but I'm very happy for her she's running away to Belmont which is closer to where she lives
and she interviewed very well and they offered her more money than Mountain
you better send that back to the sitting and say
I'm just saying I'm just saying so well sad for me happy for her
well I'm sure that your experience with Teresa it was yeah I have learned a lot under Teresa and
I really if this was a decision I had gone over my head for like a month and I'm the type of
person that I don't like moving around a lot because I'm a creature of habit and I've settled
in really well with you and with you guys you know i i do look forward to these meetings despite
not saying one word but um i really enjoy my time here but whoever you guys get next you know to
help you with these meetings will be just as great even better she's our very first administrative
assistant for the mountain view center oh all right so she's always be first she always be
first and she she she set the bar very high so they have to choose to fill now
I'm gonna expect that's big plaque in my history of admin assistance we've never
had one that's amazing so I mean really she took like zero information and
created it into like what it is now so there was no there was no there was
nothing that had a big thank you so much congratulations a lot thank you thank you so much
i do have also something to say so i know i signed up for the ad hoc 35th anniversary thing
i feel like i have to step down from that um i didn't realize that it's actually the 10-year
anniversary of my organization this year and we're starting to plan what we're going to do
and I think timeline-wise it's going to fall in the exact same timing.
So I would be doing it or something.
So I'm going to have to step down.
And is it going to go on next month's agenda to find somebody else?
Can we take action on it?
Technically, we've already done the action of forming it
because it's volunteer-based.
We don't really have to take action on that part.
So we've already formed the ad hoc.
So that's already passed.
So it's not like being on an ad hoc, it's not like an election.
You've volunteered and now you're unvolunteering.
Someone else needs to volunteer.
It will still exist because we have the motion.
It would be nice if somebody joined Sarah Donahue.
She's not alone.
I thought you were on the ad hoc.
Isn't that what it says in the minutes?
No, I'm in the motion.
I made the motion
I remember there was somebody who was willing to be on it
but then they gave it to me because I was new
I don't know
but I'm happy to also fill in if that is needed
and one of the options
yes
I mean I'm not sure
so this is for
this year
2026 is our 35th anniversary
so of course
we're going to have an anniversary celebration
and I'd asked for this committee
to put together an ad hoc committee to kind of figure out how we might be able to involve the
community more and what we would do for our anniversary weekend or day i'm trying not to
limit myself too much um and so you know that's basically it is basically how do we and what date
is it well the date is in august of 2026 so this year so we're like yeah i can help
I think
an ad hoc committee
is two.
The ad hoc committee has to do with
the planning. Anybody
that's on the forming arts committee
can contribute
and help with it. But the
planning committee
typically
would
be comprised of
people who are
already familiar with
not necessarily though well it's a it's a matter of process right so the so we are required to have
the ad hoc committee is kind of doing the pre-planning but everything still comes back to
the committee anyways and so we'll all be looped in and then i'll be pitching in our labor day of
yeah that's true that's true uh the ad hoc committee there are five people on this committee
and any subcommittee can only have two members because if there are three members that constitutes
a quorum and that's against the law for three people to meet and to plan and discuss something
it has to be an open meeting to the public like this is so we create these subcommittees
so people can think about projects and make plans and they might do that a couple weeks after a
meeting and then they present their ideas at the next tag meeting to everyone and then
everybody says good idea or why don't we do it this way or you know everybody pitches
in.
So far you are the one of the two people right?
Right.
And then you were supposed to be the second.
Yes.
Yeah I mean I'm new but I will be very happy to be the second one.
But like you said, you prefer this experience, right?
Like if nobody wants to do that.
I do not want to do that.
I want to be the person that I hear the ideas and I'm like,
that sounds great, or let's tweak it this way.
And then the actual work that Teresa asked us to do as the day approaches.
But David said he was interested and sounds like you're interested as well.
So three or two.
You have to have two, right?
So if David is interested, he is obviously more qualified.
I don't know how to resolve this.
I'm not Solomon.
I don't really decide.
There's no baby.
Right?
Yes.
I thought there was no more tears, right?
So if David wants to do that, that's great.
Next.
There will be other opportunities as well.
Yes.
So you're withdrawing and well, there's no emotion or anything.
Okay, maybe I'll be through this dude. Like, I want to do that, but I thought David wants
to do that too. And if he does, then he's more qualified than me. So, because he has
obvious lips. It's not like there won't be things for her to do.
That's true. That's true. It's true.
Sounds like we have reformed our committee.
Okay.
Our ad hoc committee.
And then when they need help with stuff, they'll come back here.
Yeah.
Let's make your vice chair now.
Thank you, vice chair.
That's all I'm volunteering for.
I'm here for everything.
Maybe you used to.
so but teresa the other thing is the uh the artist's opening
the gallery talk yes oh i wanted to give a just quick fun update in regards to that but i was so
we have a gallery talk happening on february 17th um and then we've been doing the ad hoc meetings
and um i'm sure i don't know if you had a specific update regarding this go ahead okay i was just
I was excited.
So we've gotten, we have the wine settled.
We have the date settled.
We have the artist settled.
And so, and then we have the save the dates that got sent out.
Were they only sent out to, did you guys get the email for the, for the save the date on February 17th?
I don't think they have.
Oh, we haven't sent it out.
No, just, she, I just, we just approved it today.
Okay, perfect.
So that's coming out.
And so it has a whole template of how to reach out to people and how to invite people.
Right.
So the Performing Arts Center, you might have noticed, has artwork in the walls.
So the Performing Arts Committee and the Visual Arts Committee, which is involved in selecting, you know, what goes on those walls, and the Downtown Committee, we've had, we've all collaborated over the past few months to,
city stamp to have this first ever gallery opening that's kind of a big deal um there's
uh the visual arts staff person has a list of 1500 people that she's sending the invitation
out to and anybody on the committee can also send out their contacts you know the invitation to
their contacts so maybe someone in your office could uh forward kirsten's email to we will it's
it's got to go to all of you guys but we just we just finished that today yeah okay well i guess i
got it because i was on the subcommittee yeah okay and then i was just gonna add that so i met with
the artist last week um and that was a great religion it was very fun to talk and so i think
we're gonna have a very fruitful discussion,
both for the community and everyone who's just been involved.
So I think definitely spread the word
because I think this artist is getting a lot of traction right now,
nationally speaking,
and kind of great that we have him in the center.
So I think it's going to be a fun time.
Is this a free event?
It's free and open to the public.
It's on the 17th of February, so 5.30 to 7.30.
So 5.30 will be kind of a wine and cheese reception
for those that can imbibe.
And then we'll go into second stage
and Daveed will host him for a gallery talk.
And then when that's done,
we'll go back out into the lobby
so that we can look at those artworks.
A few more bites.
So this has been something we've been working on
since I got here, huh?
Yeah, so it's a gallery talk
and reception for the artists
and Donald Hirschman.
The show is called
The Art of Code Switching.
And we have a postcard.
I'll send you guys that too.
We're getting some printed up
with QR code.
So we are asking folks to register.
It's free and open to the public,
but we want people to register
through our website
so that we have an idea
of how many folks are coming
and can be prepared for that.
And it's exciting.
I'm really excited about it.
I think it's going to...
So it's the day before our next PAC meeting?
Yes.
OK.
We get to debrief flat rates.
Yes.
Which is also.
No, our PAC meeting got moved to the 25th.
We got moved to the 25th.
It's before.
Yeah, it's before.
But not the day before.
The 20.
You got moved to the 25th.
OK, I remember that.
I'm doing the same thing right now.
I'm like.
had not updated.
Is that in the notes?
Yes.
It's in the minutes.
Sure was.
It's in the minutes.
That's really neat.
That's right.
That sounds really exciting.
I was so excited.
Yeah, I think it's going to be really nice.
And this is our first one, so I'm really hoping that we can get the word out and get folks to come and just, you know, come and partake.
This is the downtown committee, the performing arts committee, and...
Visual arts.
Visual arts.
I mean, visual arts.
Us.
Downtown committee, visual arts, and us.
Yeah.
I hope it becomes tradition.
That was my idea, one of the ideas when I was interviewing for...
Oh, yeah.
Like in San Francisco, right?
Yeah.
Like, I see deep people.
So, galleries have the openings by artists, so that's great.
We're doing one this year and then we're hoping that, you know, as we, as long it catches on and we just keep building from there and continue.
Thank you to our ad hoc committee for planning this.
Very excited.
I think I said in the video for the last year for the, whatever, thank you dinner for the, for the committees that the spirit of Mountain View may be innovation, but the soul remains the arts.
and I think this is a great exemplar of soul of Mountain View still being in the arts.
So write that down.
That's my thoughts. I'm kind of excited.
No, and it was really my hope too to get the three committees working together because
it's kind of there was a little to me there was a disconnect. I have this lovely committee
and then there's a visual arts committee that chooses artwork that goes on the walls in the
building but we don't really talk to each other and then we have and then we're in downtown so
like we all it's really cool and beautiful start talking together really cool collaboration it's
been lovely to get to know the other committee members too you see them at a distance every
once in a while well it is too because the downtown committee doesn't i don't look at all
their memes or hardly ever do but i don't know that they talk about center all that much
I think we're the best kept season.
We'll get there.
I think that I posted high.
So anyway, it'll be a fun event.
And I have a long list.
We'll have standing room in the event that it's...
What was that?
We'll have standing room or overflow in the event that there's overflow.
Yeah, we can actually, that was the goal.
If we have a projector in there, we can actually pipe it out to the lobby.
Okay, that's cool.
And it's appropriate for kids too?
I would say it's appropriate for kids.
It depends on how old.
There's wine.
There is wine.
And then I know that we're doing some of the outreaches to Freestyle Academy.
I think we have some of our high schools are part of the outreach.
Small children, I don't think it's like, they're not the target demographic, obviously,
but I think it could be fruitful for a high school student, even a middle schooler.
I'll put it this way.
I wouldn't, I would have taken my 10-year-old.
Yeah.
I wouldn't have hesitant.
Yeah.
I think it's more adult because of the alcohol is being served and it's like a different type of.
yeah but we're not serving the kids alcohol so that's not a problem yeah um and you know it just
depends on your kid but i would i would not have censored my kid from them yeah my parents would
have brought yeah i wouldn't hesitate at 10 i wouldn't have hesitated a little younger than
that i might it's more of a risk of boredom right or my kid well my kid was just every kid's
different. Every kid's different. No, I wanted to share it with my community, my student community.
So, because I'll come and be like, hey, let's all go kind of thing. Yeah. I just wanted to know
if one of your kids could come up. Yeah. I think, I don't think anyone would bring a six-year-old
anyways. Yeah. I mean, that's, that would, you know. I anticipate the conversation being enjoyable
for it.
Not just because I'm waiting.
I'm excited about this.
I'm just so happy it's on the week. I'm not teaching.
So I get to actually...
I never get to come to anything.
Okay.
I don't think I have anything else.
Future further updates.
So postcard is in the mail.
It's been printed. It's in the mail.
It's going to our list, which is 17,000
folks, and then I'll have 300
3,000 that we'll have in the lobby.
And then we're actually printing up some more
that have the QR code.
I'll make sure you guys, and then there's
the email that I'll see you that you can
forward on.
So we're just doing our best to just last this.
It's very exciting.
Small thought that just kind of came to mind right now.
The gallery is open in the lobby, or what is the status
on the gallery hours?
The gallery is open
only before the show, and then we
have limited hours during the week okay that are like i'm gonna say like birthday from
um i'm having to get a little more um
what i'm what i'm really hoping for is eventually we get like
i'm not i'm no longer comfortable just letting
it's worth thousands of dollars and my box office people are there and they have we have a dutch
store so it's open and they can see people come in but if but if they're like helping a customer
or something and then somebody you know like a way to create um facilitated engagement with the
public structured way it allows a deeper criticality with the art understandable well who would um
would that be the visual arts that would worry about the docent i mean bring up in our joint
It would have to be someone that knows the artist or knows about the artwork.
Yeah, or someone that's willing to study, like an art student that's willing to, like,
you could have a student, like, for every course.
Oh, right.
And then they would come and, you know, we're not open, like, five days a week,
so it's, like, one day a week for them to come from noon to three or whatever.
Is it, like, an internship that you could offer a student?
I mean, we can discuss them in ad hoc as well, or just something if we're thinking about that.
I like your ideas.
You move slow here at Mountain.
Diligent.
Diligent.
Critically.
I'm nothing if not tenacious.
Well, animation.
It's a requirement for the show.
It really is.
That's Galandra.
You're not with us anymore.
I know.
I know.
Do we have any other questions?
I have a question, which I know we can't take action on right now, but anything for staff.
I have a vague recollection, Teresa, of you mentioning something about some of the performing performance and music performers on Castro Street.
Is that downtown committee?
That's a recreation program.
That has nothing to do with it.
Okay, that's recreation.
That's recreation and along with the summer concerts.
Okay.
That answers that question.
Thank you.
Was there a second?
Or did you have another just who was running it or another thought on that?
No, I was just curious who was running that, who was coordinating, because when I'm downtown
and people are down there saying stuff, it makes it a little more lively.
And I know right now it's winter, so I don't know as much of that.
And then, well, I guess we don't have anyone from, I guess I have more questions about
that.
That'd be interesting to actually talk to people who are doing that.
I think that'd be interesting to have them discuss engagement and things.
I think that might be interesting.
I have some history on that.
Just an interesting thought, maybe.
I don't know if we can see who's doing performance things at the city level.
Interesting to talk with them as we are the Performing Arts Committee.
I have another question.
So no action is taken on questions that are raised.
If I ask a question, when does it ever get answered?
We can answer our own questions, I think.
I think no action taken just means you can't just form an ad hoc committee right now.
That would have to be on the agenda.
But if you have a question.
So if I say I wanted to form out an ad hoc committee, which I don't, but like I could
say it and then would it be motion approved to put on next agenda is that how it works
i can just request it and then we'll put it on the you can request staff to add it for the
to the next agenda okay i don't have anything i just understand it just means that like if you're
like oh that's such a great idea theresa we think you should have you should now start coordinating
art every day outside the form of art center we couldn't do that because this is kind of just
comments so we couldn't ask staff to go do this well there's a complication there too yeah you
can't ask stuff to do anything but request we can request we can request you can form an ad hoc
committee and then we can have discussions about it but we can't do that right now because you can't
because it's just comments comments and announcements well no because somebody that's
somebody else in the city owns that the plaza it's not part of the former arts center
no it's more complicated it's more complicated oh my gosh i don't want to get into it now
sorry i just here there's no there's no motions there's no action we're not going to approve any
budgets, nothing like that. We've worked very hard over the past two or three years to innovate
on the inside and that's just sort of getting launched now. So maybe now is not the time.
Since we have our anniversary thing, we're going to leave off to a whole new...
No, I was just saying that's an example of something we could not do right now
but in this section where it's just because we can't no action will be taken that is something
for you to plan when you are a chair that's right you can do no i don't i don't even want to do that
it was just i was asking a question i was just trying to answer it saying we that we could give
updates on ad hoc committees we can give comments please that can answer questions but we can't
make motions to do things right section right okay so i do have a question then trying to
understand. So for example, our public had come up with the idea of that has given us ideas. How do we move forward with that? Do we bring it up as an agenda item next time? Do we create a...
Thank you for attending.
Thank you. We gotta see you later.
Because we weren't allowed to respond, right? So then do we talk about it next time or how is it?
I think actually this is the time where we could make a suggestion for next time or something like that, actually.
We can, or we can also like wait till they reach out.
What I'll say is like, I heard a couple things there.
One is like, you know, financial support,
which this committee isn't in a position to do,
but that's kind of why I said something
about the second stage vitality program.
Cause that would be something I think
they would be interested in
because that is a way to support them
and have another venue.
Cause I was up at Red Rock.
It was just like wall to wall people.
It's just, you know, it was a bit much.
And then a lot of weight.
Yeah.
You know, so there was that. And then, you know, there was a couple other comments, too, about just just some samples.
Right. Yeah. But it's like what I'll say about like this, like the samples and the videos and that kind of stuff.
It's like we don't this committee doesn't program the summer concerts or the music on Castro or something.
But if they send it to staff, that doesn't mean that I can't send it.
That's why I was having them reach out to me. I can't send it to the person that does program the music.
So, you know, they do raise interesting tensions about the ways in which like we are operating and perhaps not as agile in the city towards contemporary demand.
And also, I think they also raise the question that certain community spaces are at already a capacity, which means that demand is exceeding capacity, like everything.
But so, but, and we are not structured with the agility to actually support some of their
requests at the moment, but it doesn't meet, which they would have taken a second longer,
but, so we don't have the ability to, I think, support some of the things that they're,
they're discussing right now, but they do raise questions that look into the next five
to 10 years of the health of the arts in the city of Mountain View.
I also do think that this aligns with Silicon Valley Creates initiatives and some of the
things that they're putting forth. Of course, again, implementation is always a tricky thing
from whether a nonprofit or an institution, dialoguing that with actual artists can create
tension, right? So, but they're raising a discursive question about how do we take,
how do we hear from artists? This is what I heard. How do we hear from artists, hear what they're
needing, and then respond in kind and structurally in parity with them is what I'm hearing as well.
And we don't have the mechanism to do that at this moment, but government doesn't have the
mechanism to be agile with the public.
It's just a limitation.
But I think nonetheless, an important question.
I had to speak from a grassroots perspective.
I am going to that Silicon Valley equate.
Oh, you are?
I was going to ask who.
I forgot about that.
I'm going as well.
Oh, right.
And myself, I'm going too.
Well, so I saw the link in the forwarded email
that said respond here. So I just registered. Then I thought, oops, and heard from Alondra that,
you know, spot was already taken. So I thought, well, okay, that's that. And so today I got an
email from Silicon Valley Creates. So what happened is they sent the email back to staff
and said, you know, we have four slots and five of you responded. And I said, that's okay. I'll
uninvite myself and then I got a response back from staff that said that's okay I just was trying
to see how much food I needed to order oh I was like okay fine good five people we're three and
then two probably from the visual arts committee so there's two from there and two for us so she
said to me that um that I was you know confirmed or something this morning and I asked her if I
should bring payment because I understood you know that Mountain View was at capacity and she said
that other cities did not send all their eligible people and so they had openings. Eat their food.
That's also yeah. That's like I don't want to get anybody because I kind of overstepped my bounds
a few months ago and invited someone to go. I'm not going to go through that again. But in what
capacity that overstepping a community to invite a community member to an event that is about
creating programming for the community through government that's not overstepping carol so this
is a private but it's somehow it's like every city has paid to be part of this silicon valley
creates organization and then then it's basically you know our how do i say this for lack of a
but our membership is at four for these lunches.
And so then it has to be, but who all wants to go, you know?
And that's like.
Apparently a demand exceeds capacity.
So.
Not necessarily.
Well, I was on their bootcamp committee
and I didn't even go to their bootcamp.
So.
You booted the camp.
We were driving alone on roads I don't know at night.
Oh, it was too dark.
But anyway, okay.
So I think we finished all of our business.
And so I adjourned this January 21st meeting.
Do we want to have our new committee member?
I'm so sorry to interrupt you.
I was too smart.
I just thought of that.
You should have done that.
I just thought of it.
I just thought of it.
I'm so sorry to stop while we're about to adjourn, but I just thought of that.
What?
He's just pointing out my rudeness.
I didn't ask you to speak about yourself and introduce yourself to the group because we
don't know you and we'd like to get to know you better.
Yes, I'm Marina Kron and I think I interviewed with both of those guys.
I'm very excited to see you here.
Yeah, so it's great to see all of us three new members.
and yeah I just saw the ad
and I was interested in
contributing and I spoke with Teresa
before that
I'm a fan
I have terror works mostly and Peninsula Youth
there with my son
and I lived in Mountain View forever
so I also like to go
to symphony and opera and plays
in San Francisco and I like the
idea of the gallery so
I applied and I got invited
after someone else resigned
if I understand so
My first time serving on the committee.
And yeah, I will bring my binder next time.
Welcome.
Thank you.
Welcome.
We're happy to have you.
Yeah, like it's very pleasant and down to earth kind of.
And I really appreciate you answering my questions.
So is this your first committee that you've...
Yes.
Nice.
it can get addictive
who knows there might be a third of my future
no no we're just keeping you here forever
it can happen
it can happen
we kept Carol
what other comedians did you serve
you were on the bicycle
and bicycle pedestrian
advisory kit
For eight years.
For eight years.
She's going for her second eight-year term.
Second eight-year term now.
I want that 10-year service award.
When do you get the consecutive, it adds up.
Oh, okay, okay.
The A plus.
Yeah.
A plus two.
You get a little pin, right?
You will.
That's cool.
You have your pin, right?
I have two, I guess.
Like your little letterman thing or whatever it is.
Or your little letter that you get.
Okay, something to work for.
You're a tenure pin.
Okay, so I think we're ready to adjourn now at 7.16.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Yes.
