STREAMING COPY IN PREPARATION — RECORDING AVAILABLE FROM THE ORIGINAL SOURCE
Newark City Council Meeting - April 10, 2024
This meeting focused on amendments to two development resolutions, presented by Deputy Mayor Allison Ladd. The changes were made on the floor after consultations with ward council members and community input. The council also addressed a minor address correction for a south side item.
Discussion Items
- Deputy Mayor Allison Ladd stated that the original administration proposals for two items were amended on the floor based on conversations with council members and what was deemed in the best interest of the community. The amendments modified the scope of the projects rather than returning them to the administration.
- Council President Ramos asked whether the Letters of Intent (LOIs) that won the awards reflected the original or amended proposals. Ladd confirmed the original LOIs were as submitted in Legistar; the amendments include modified documents provided to the clerk the previous day.
- Regarding the first amended item (110-116 Dewey Street, South Ward), Ladd said no other LOIs were similar. For the second item (Economic Investments for Equitable Communities, Washington Bay Group), there were additional applications but they were not similar. -A final amendment was noted: a correction to a street address (missing number) for a south side item.
Key Outcomes
- The council proceeded to a roll call vote on the amended resolutions; the outcome of the vote was not recorded in the available transcript.
Meeting Transcript
Any changes at the last minute. Thank you, Councilman Gonzalez. Uh Deputy Mayor Ladd. Good afternoon, Council President. Uh Councilmembers Allison Ladd, Director of Economic and Housing Development. The original proposal that the city put forward on the two items that are being amended on the floor was the recommendation by the administration. Through conversations that were then held with the council member and the ward council member, based upon what was best interest of the community, there was a recommendation to modify the scope of the project. So that is where the change occurred. So we are recommending an amendment on the floor rather than a return to the administration. Okay. One one quick question, Madame. President Ramos. So these two were awarded based on these LOIs, correct? Yes. So the LOI proposed what? What was originally put forward by the administration, or did the LOI reflect what you amended the two resolutions to? The original submission, Council President, was as it was submitted in Legistar, the amendment and the paperwork that subsequently was provided to the clerk yesterday, includes any modified documents. Did any other LOIs come in with similar projects to what these two were amended to? Um on the first one, 110 Dewey, which uh which is associated with the 110-116 Dewey Street in the South Ward, no. Um on the second one, the economic um investments for equitable communities, the Washington Bay Group. Uh the answer was there were additional applications, but they were not similar. Thank you. Thank you, Councilman Ramos. Any other comments or questions? Uh and if I could just state I know Council President, there was one last item that was mentioned that will be an amendment. It's an address problem, so we actually just missed um a number uh on the street address. That's the only change, and it's for one of the south side items. Okay, thank you, Deputy Mayor Ladd. Roll call.
