Public Comments & Testimony
- Multiple community members spoke in favor of increased library funding and expressed concerns about the city's stance on subsidies for the library. One speaker stated that the library is an incredibly valuable resource and criticized the administration for making excuses to avoid funding, noting that the lack of progress could jeopardize state aid. Another speaker highlighted the library's role in providing resources to the community and urged the council to support it. Some speakers expressed disappointment with the council's approach, emphasizing that the subsidy should not be considered a form of support.
Discussion Items
- The council discussed the library funding situation, with some members noting the library's importance and the need to prioritize its financial stability. A council member questioned the logic of reducing subsidies while acknowledging the library's value.
- Discussion on the purchase of laptops and concrete bids was minimal, as they were part of the consent calendar.
- The council also discussed the opportunity zone nomination and the Healing Illinois grant, with general support expressed.
Key Outcomes
- The consent calendar, including all routine approvals (7a, 7b, 8a, 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d, 10a), was approved by a vote of 5 in favor (with some members passing). The exact tally was not fully clear from the transcript, but the mayor stated "I'm in favor I pass five" after a motion and second.
- The library funding issue did not result in a vote; it was discussed during public comment and council dialogue but no action was taken at this meeting.
- The annual budget (Ordinance 10a) was adopted as part of the consent calendar.
Meeting Transcript
And first I would like to recommend um someone who has been fine and the same people. I've done with us for them. Okay, that okay, so there might be one person that has more interesting. Oh that's all uh clean library. Uh I have a couple night and I like to ask my couple. Uh came back and looking at the library, but two things in the market and spelling that one after the first of all this company, actually have a libraries to have two and open access to that thing and then we're gonna look at the find that all individuals provide the backline, but it's a popular need to know. And as the principal public employees are entrepreneurs and that way, I provide all kinds of resources and community to put three things in a cloud success. And we have to be country, and how about the cloud collection uh library week? So I'm fine to our concept of other people. Um covering. Um below that we can have to cut the people. I really have to put it in. If you can win football on the data. I believe you think that we can often. If you click on it. We can also keep it optional. Clear to draw the B. This is my health. It means we feel a two. If you know the picture now, one of the things. And I think we can look at that. And so three. Okay, my father is thankful. And it's a second. I tell three. Most company simply. But I know I can have to type a colour and have six. And uh cut on the show. Well, to the mic and have a button with fine and the red light will come out. So about that comes on the point of things. Um that uh clean, but uh thank you for the five is a few all the way. I think that's a close look at the end. Um really important uh shooting uh people and business each two and whole library uh can a little full bit of time. Yeah, that's the same thing and uh really important clear that we make uh things uh and uh study uh people and business thing uh two like the bank too if they have a library to be four buttons uh just one uh one can probably uh be uh because I think um I would include the uh because uh recently and keep and second the two yeah 151 uh we have a motion we can support at the library where everyone we have two studies with the physical technology that we went through uh anywhere and in the community and thousand in 79 with our online. You can episode out in my heart in the code. And you know, it is a very good and that you guys have seen the cut of subsidy in there instead of supporting it in faith because it is um yeah, everybody this year the subsidy is not a form of support I do not believe. Especially when it is well known that we would be back in this situation much. You are very fine with people about city screens as a natural resource to all the news are the comments maybe that you but you are noticing yourself and deeply disappointing the amount of excuses because it's made to justify what is going on with that. It's been hard to keep up the last few weeks of every interview instead of meeting and you would like it's being made on why they don't need to have it and why they always get accepted in the quality. But having the look of funding basically you're just gonna library following the maintenance of that we call it by the state of underline. It could be qualified from the state library to type of work in the future. It might not happen today, it may not happen that's true. But if they don't go progress, they could lose that time and plus the administration in the private government is type in the IML, which is for giving funding in the state so that they can be able to screw it. It's also in the interest. It was telling them to use a phone divide by the second. Why the agency that support on them and two major models are few and three, the only one being to go funding to make it together. I know the two systems that I have been taken in the other one. But I have been studying so deeply and still want to know more about them. They're all made to rest in woodland. But I don't think they would want the fact that we got one study to be found in the library that they support in their life.
