- Rezone R26-25 (603 North Monitor Road) – Request to rezone 4+ acres from I-1 to I-2. Planning Commission approved 6-3 with public comments on buffering. After discussion on the difference between I-1 and I-2, no motion was made; the item did not move forward and effectively failed.
- Rezone R26-26 (2161 North Thompson Street) – Rezoning from C2 to C6 for auto sales. Ordinance passed 7-0, but the emergency clause failed 4-3 (mayor did not vote). The rezoning is effective without emergency.
- Rezone R26-27 (Southeast corner of Moody Avenue and Lincoln Drive) – Rezoning to W1 warehouse district. Ordinance and emergency clause both passed 7-0.
- Conditional Use for Zio Spence's Pizza (2403 South Thompson Street) – Food truck operation with conditions from Planning Commission (e.g., operating hours, parking, health certificate). Council approved the resolution (no recorded dissent).

- Sidewalk Waiver for Victory Lane Development – Full waiver (option one) for a warehouse/office project; passed 7-0.

Key Outcomes
- Resignation of Councilmember Aaron Huntley: Huntley announced his resignation effective immediately, citing a new job in central Arkansas. The council accepted his resignation and declared a vacancy (vote 6-0). City Attorney Garrett Harlan explained that at the next meeting (June 23), the council must either appoint a qualified elector or call a special election. Discussion favored a special election coinciding with the November general election to avoid extra cost. A resolution for both options will be prepared.
- Monitor Road Rezone (R26-25) failed due to lack of motion.
- Thompson Street Rezone (R26-26) passed without emergency clause, meaning it takes effect later.
- All other agenda items were approved as described above.
Note on Date Discrepancy
- The transcript of the meeting states the date as Tuesday, June 9, 2026, but the meeting is officially recorded as June 12, 2026 per the provided timestamp. This summary uses the provided date.
Meeting Transcript
Just a couple of minutes away from calling the meeting to order. Before we do, I would invite you to stand and join me in the pledge, and then Councilman Aaron Huntley will bring the invocation. Father, we thank you for this day. We thank you for this opportunity to serve you and to serve this community. We'd ask you that you give us wisdom and give us strength and help us make good decisions in Jesus' name. Amen. Thank you, Aaron. All right. I will now call this regular meeting to Springdale City Council to order. This is Tuesday, June 9th, 2026. And to begin things off, uh I'll ask our city clerk Saber Jeffers to call the roll. Mayor Sprouse? Here. Brian Powell? Here. Amelia Taldo. Jeff Watson. Mike Overton. Here. Mike Lawson. Here. Aaron Huntley. Here. Randall Herman. Mark Boudrews. Here. Garrett Harlan. Here. All right. Thank you. We do have a quorum. And we will move on now to item four, which is comments from our citizens. Do we have anyone in the room that would like to address the council concerning an item that is not already on tonight's agenda? Just state your name and address and please keep your comments to no more than three minutes. By the way, kudos to IT. We've got us a little three minute timer there. So uh so I feel nervous being a good thing. Can you see that from the podium, Alan? Uh that's just I think we're okay with you probably. Yeah, I'll have a lot of people. We're not gonna talk that long are you three minutes is too long for me. All right, go ahead. Uh good evening, Mayor, Council members, and everyone in attendance. My name is Alan Cottner, and I live at 1304 Rebecca Lane. I recently announced my candidate for Springdale City Council, Ward 4, Seat 1. For those who do not know me, I've lived in Northwest, lived and worked in Northwest Arkansas for over eight years, and I currently serve as a public relations director for McCarty Daniel Automotive here in Northwest Arkansas. Through my work, I've had the opportunity to partner with schools, nonprofits, chamber of commerce, civic organizations, and community events throughout Springdale and across Northwest Arkansas. Over the years, I've learned something that I believe is very important. Great communities are built by people who show up, people who volunteer, people who listen, and people who are willing to involve, get involved and work together to solve problems. That belief is what led me to run for city council.
