3:59Could they please come to the podium?
4:04Resolution one twenty-seven-twenty-six.
4:08Do we want to see if anyone's here?
4:17Honoring National Arab American Heritage Month observed annually in April and celebrating the history, culture, and contributions of Arab Americans.
4:26Whereas National Arab American Heritage Month is recognized each year in April to celebrate the rich heritage, diverse cultures, and significant contributions of Arab Americans to the United States.
4:38And whereas Arab Americans trace their roots to more than twenty countries across the Middle East and North Africa and have been part of the American story for over a century.

5:04And whereas the recognition of National Arab American Heritage Month promotes greater understanding, respect, and appreciation of Arab American history and culture, while also fostering unity and inclusion within our communities.
5:19And whereas observing National Arab American Heritage Month provides an opportunity to honor the resilience, achievements, and cultural legacy of Arab Americans and to reaffirm our commitment to be a welcoming city.

6:33Clark, please begin with resolution intended for National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive.
6:41With those that are representing the letter carriers, please.
6:46To the podium, please.
6:55Recognizing the National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive.
7:00Whereas the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive is the result of a long-standing tradition of community service consistently demonstrated by members of the letter carriers union.
7:11And whereas letter carriers who serve neighborhoods across the nation six days a week have a history of responding when help is needed, whether through charitable fundraising efforts for organizations like the Muscular Dystrophy Association, participating in the carrier alert program to safeguard the elderly, assisting fellow carriers through the NALC Disaster Relief Fund, or even rescuing individuals from fires, crime, and other emergencies.
7:38Whereas in 1991, a coordinated national effort to combat hunger in America emerged through the leadership of then NALC President Vincent R.
7:48Sombrado, AFL CIO Community Services Director, Joseph Velasquez, and Postmaster General Anthony Frank, a successful pilot food drive took place in October 1991 across 10 cities, which inspired the launch of a nationwide campaign.
8:06Whereas food banks and pantries identified late spring as a critical time for replenishment due to depleted holiday season supplies, leading to the selection of the second Saturday in May as the annual date for the drive, and the first nationwide NALC food drive occurred on May 15, 1993, with the participation of more than 220 union branches across all 50 states, collecting over 11 million pounds of food in a single day, a U.S.
8:38And whereas the NA NALC food drive has continued to grow with letter carriers from coast to coast collecting donations while delivering mail, showcasing a powerful example of civic dedication and public service, and in the more than 30 years since its inception, the NALC food drive has amassed approximately 1.9 billion pounds of food to help fight hunger and support individuals and families in need across the country.
9:06Now therefore, be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo that we recognize and commend the National Association of Letter Carriers for their unwavering commitment to community service and their extraordinary impact in alleviating hunger through the national annual NALC food drive.

9:33Jones, Comibes, Kramer, Martinez, Serantu, Williams, Driscoll, Gaddis, Hobbes, motion carried, passage.
10:14We are so proud of what the letter carriers are doing in our community and across the nation.
10:19And this food drive is just very uh it's enormous, it's very successful, and each year it gets better and better.
10:27And you know, when you think about our letter carriers, uh, they work in all kinds of weather.
10:32Uh and yet not only are they doing their jobs and delivering the mail, but they're also checking on people.
10:39They very often you'll have stories here in Toledo at least a couple times a year where letter carriers identifying a resident that needs help, medical attention, is laying down, and uh needs to get a hold of our uh first responders and who is it, but it's the letter carriers that make that happen.
10:58So we not only appreciate that, but we appreciate what you're doing to feed hungry people.
11:03Clearly, we know there is such a great need uh across the city and across the nation for people to have food.
11:11And um with us today is Mike Hayden, who's the president uh in blue, president of letter carriers, and uh Butch Woolworth is the manager uh of the union office.
11:21And I am apologize, I forgot your name, but please tell us and welcome from the letter carriers union also.
11:28So um this is the first time we've been doing this in in council chambers uh for many years.
11:34Uh normally we've been able to do it uh in the mayor's office.
11:37So we appreciate your efforts of being here, and uh just again we just say thank you very, very much for what you're doing for Toledo uh people.
11:47Thank you, madam president.
11:50Councilmember Call Myers.
11:52Uh too, I want to thank you all for the work that you do in the community.
11:56Um you know it's not just uh those opportunities when you're out on the doors, it's also the fight that you have been putting in to ensure that the USPS stays open.
12:05Um there's been so many attacks and threats in the last few years, and I've attended some of your protests and appreciate the work that you all are doing to make sure that people pay attention and and that it's protected.
12:18It's absolutely necessary for more reason than one is as Mr.
12:21Santa just pointed out.
12:22Do you still do your charity basketball game?
12:26It's probably a good thing.
12:27I injured my back severely at the end of the day.
12:29We had a couple of those, that's why we don't do it anymore.
12:32You know, the problem was that you put all of us non-basketball players up against a really good letter carrier team, and they just destroyed us every every year.
12:40So no, but it was a really fun time.
12:43If you come up with something else, I'd love to participate.
12:45Um, but yeah, thanks for what you do.
12:47Thanks for for the also the focus on hunger in our community.
12:50It's super important.
12:52Okay, the floor is yours.
12:55It's a pleasure to be here.
12:56We're honored to receive the uh proclamation from the city council.
13:00Um but you locked up one of the most important people in this food drive, and it's you guys, and it's our community.
13:06We're very proud uh of Northwest Ohio.
13:08Uh we are number one in the state every single year in the food drive and raising uh getting food to the food pantries here in every local community that we serve.
13:18Um, and we it couldn't be done without everybody's help in the community.
13:23Um locally, we've we've uh amassed six million pounds since we started the food drive here locally, and that's uh by no, you know, you guys deserve more recognition.
13:35We just do the hard lifting.
13:36You guys do the uh important stuff of donating.
13:40Um if you imagine one person ever in the community putting out one can on the day of the food drive, which is May 9th.
13:46I mean, that would amass uh a lot of food for the community.
13:50Uh we've always had uh everybody's support here, and that's why we are number one.
13:55Toledo is one of the most gracious places to live.
13:58Um it's not known for its wealth as much as other cities in Ohio, maybe, but uh our people give and they give uh graciously to uh the food drive and to local charities, so we thank everybody for that.
14:11Um this year, uh we're we're again asking you.
14:13We have some new uh projects that Melissa might say a few things about to gather the food and get it to the proper food banks.
14:20Here locally in Toledo because goes to C Seagate.
14:23They do have a they have a zero waste policy at Seagate, so we take it to Seagate uh food bank here uh down in 09.
14:31Sorry, I'm on letter carrier.
14:32Those are all zip codes to me.
14:35Um, but we're looking forward to another good year, and this year's probably even more important.
14:39There's food insecurity once again throughout our community.
14:44Um, grocery prices, at least when I go grocery shopping, have not come down that much, so it's gonna be we have more people with food insecurities locally, and we've uh hopefully, you know, the prices of groceries will not limit people's donations.
14:58So I want to thank all you guys for what you do.
15:00Thanks for having me.
15:03Well, we could really use publicity to remind people to go put some food by their mailbox the morning of May 9th, and uh we'll come around and take care of the rest.
15:11And I thank you guys again, Melissa.
15:14So this year we have um Toledo Public Schools, um, Oregon Schools also helping, and all the libraries are currently going to collect foods at all their locations.
15:24Seagate is going to put all the collection boxes out, and then they're going to come and pick them all back up with the food and then take it down to Seagate.
15:33As Mike said, they don't waste um all their food that is um expired does go to farms and feeds pigs and animals, so there's definitely no waste out there.
15:45Well, thank you so much.
15:46Um, will you come in the pit here and take a picture with our council people?

44:05If you see the QR codes, please take that.
44:07We have about 55 responses so far.

45:10Talk about all the good things.
45:11I think we oftentimes are portrayed as only talking about problems or negative things, and there's so much good happening.
45:17So I just really wanted to highlight that and appreciate it.
45:19Also, shout out to our kid mayor, who I think could truly take the mayor's while.
45:25And the kid council, who are just already off rockin' rolling, um doing cool stuff out with me, so really excited for them.
45:34Um last this Friday I'll be attending um a UT undergrad capstone program.
45:42Um I've been working with a group of students on some uh native planting requirements in conjunction with our planning department.
