Alameda Parks Commission Meeting: March 16, 2026
The Alameda Parks and Recreation Commission met on Monday, March 16, 2026, to discuss park updates, community programs, and policy changes. The meeting featured presentations from staff on park construction, maintenance, and recreational programs, followed by commissioner communications and a key vote on the updated banner policy and new storage unit policy.

They're due back on April Seventh. Estuary Park construction is ongoing with completion at the end of twenty twenty-six. They're working on the north side first, and then we'll construct the south two connectors. Let's see here. It's for beginning. Spring break camps are taking place Monday through Friday, April 13th through the 17th. And for the spring vacation camp is offered at Harrison, and other special interest programs will take place at various locations like the Alameda Point Gym. Our teen and tweens career prep and job fair and uh for resumes takes place on Thursday, March 26th, the Alameda Boys and Girls Club. Teens Teaching Tech, this is taking place on Thursdays in March on March 26th and April 9th from 4 p.m. at the Mastic Senior Center. This is a great opportunity where the seniors and the teens get together and learn how the iPhone works. So there it's a really fun uh cross-generational event. Um then our we're also still uh facilitating the the Queer Teen Alameda uh Center, which takes place at the Underground Teen Center at the Vets Building. This happens Fridays at 6 p.m. Um for more information about that. You can go to Alameda Pride.com. Um we're registering for summer volunteer programs, and um our volunteers can earn community service hours. Um every act matters, assists with events such as the Spring Shindig, movie nights, Sandcastle Contests, Fourth of July parade, and community rec. Our operation Green Sweep is Monday, Mondays and Fridays, June 22nd through July 24th, where the groups go out and help uh make our community cleaner, greener, and more beautiful. And then we have our junior leader program. This takes place Monday through Friday, July 6th through the 31st, from 8 until 5:30. This is where uh kids can build leadership skills, gain experience, and prepare for future jobs with ARPD. Um, and then we're currently uh actively interviewing potential part-time employees for our summer. So um if you haven't yet, visit our website. Um we have a lot of jobs posted for the summer. Um for our uh sports program, our youth uh programs at the Alameda Point Gym. Um we're still offering after school pickleball. This is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30. We have homeschool PE for K through fifth graders, it's taking place Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 till 12, and then we will have our spring break camps um at the Alameda Point Gym from April 13th through the 17th for those non-AUSD school days. Um for our adult programs, we still have open gym, which is taking place on Sundays uh 6 to 10 p.m. And then we have our tennis, our private and group uh sessions are available. We're offering indoor pickleball Fridays from 9 30 to 12 p.m. And then we're also offering indoor roller skating Wednesdays, 9 p.m. till 10 30 at the Alameda Point Gym. And then uh our spring softball leagues registration is closed and games begin the week of April 6th. Um see here. Um the Masti uh happenings at Mastic, we're having our um line dancing level one is taking place on Wednesdays um April 1st through the 29th, 9 15 a.m. at the social hall. Um, how to get help uh with health care costs is taking place on Tuesday, April 14th at 10 a.m. Um this is a review of the Medicare program, eligibility application process and benefits. And then stained glass and mosaic spaces are filling up quickly for the spring and summer sessions, but uh we do still have some availability there. Umbers toured the guide dogs for blind campus and San Rafael and lunch in Sasolino on Monday, March 9th. Um and then for parks, um Littlejohn Park. There's been ongoing work to uh adjust the site for little league usage, including safety upgrades and ADA improvements in February. Our maintenance staff participated in and chainsaw safety training and electric mower demonstration and electric mower demonstration. Um as you well know for our method for going totally carbon neutral. This will be key for um converting our equipment to electric eventually. Lincoln Park, Thursday, February 9th. We had to do an emergency tree removal and to protect the playground and prevent any injuries. The rodeo rotary club and CASA, along with uh 100,000 trees for humanity partnered with ARPD to plant 22 trees near the playground and the ball field.
