The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 7:15 p.m. in Lane Auditorium. The board adopted proclamations, handled a consent agenda, conducted work sessions on riparian buffer standards and the 2026 legislative program, received the FY25 SPEAR report, held public hearings, and discussed a potential running bamboo ordinance. All six supervisors were present: Chair Jim Andrews (Samuel Miller), Vice Chair Diantha H. McKeel (Jack Jouett), Ned Gallaway (Rio), Bea LaPisto-Kirtley (Rivanna), Ann H. Mallek (White Hall), and Mike Pruitt (Scottsville). County Executive Jeffrey Richardson and County Attorney Andy Herrick also attended.
With Supervisor Galloway having entered the room. I am pleased to call to order this meeting of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors on the 20th of August at 1 p.m. in Lane Auditorium back to our office building. I'd like to note this we have I'll say this slowly Supervisor Pruitt of the Scottsville District, Supervisor B. Lapisto Kirtley of the Ravana District. And Supervisor Ned Galloway of the Rio District and myself, Jim Andrews representing the Samuel Miller District Quorum is present. We're also joined by our county executive, Mr. Jeff Richardson, our county attorney, Mr. Andy Herrick, our clerk, Ms. Claudette Borkerson and Senior Deputy Clerk, Mr. Travis Morris. Also, let me please welcome Albemarle County Police Officers present. Master Police Officer Dana Reeves, Senior Police Officer David Sprouse, thank you for your service today and every day on behalf of all of the people in Albemarle. Very much appreciated for our safety and security. If all present could now stand as you are able and join us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you. And I now ask if you would join us in a moment of silence. Thank you. I would like to make a couple notes, though, before doing so. First, uh with respect to item 17, while it will remain on the agenda, our expectation is that uh the motion will be to defer uh to November 5th, which is uh uh date certain, but we'll still have if there anyone comes to speak a public hearing to discuss it, but uh there's action on that one. Um and then at the uh uh we added to the end of the uh agendas item 19 a discussion regarding an ordinance to control running bamboo at the request of one of the supervisors. And uh with those notes, do we have a motion to adopt the final agenda? So moved. Second. I just want to. My thoughts are with the folks of the incident that happened in Glenmore yesterday. That was horrendous news. Um just don't even really have habit put together what to say other than to just say that I mean, for that whole community, that's it's just devastating beyond just the owner.
