On October 26, 2026, the City of Alexandria's Transportation and Environmental Services Department held a virtual pre-construction community meeting for the North Beauregard Street Multi-Use Trail Project. Project Manager David Lee presented the project overview, construction impacts, and schedule, joined by sponsor project manager Sarah Brent Burrell, construction manager Robert McGuire, portfolio manager Daphne Cott, and Ira Captain of Milani Construction. The meeting included public comments and questions focused on pedestrian and cyclist safety during construction.
So we'll go ahead and get started. Thank you everyone for joining us tonight. My name is David Lee with the C of Alexander Transportation and Environmental Services Department. I am the project manager for the North Beauregard Street Multi-Use Trail Project. Tonight we'll be here for the pre-construction community meeting virtually. Also joining me tonight are Sarah Brent Burrell, who is our sponsor project manager, Robert McGuire, who is our construction manager, Daphne Cott, who is our portfolio manager, and Ira Captain with Milani Construction. Oh no. Alright, so agenda, we have a couple slides tonight. We're gonna go over the project overview, what we'll be installing with our project, and then we'll talk about a couple of construction impacts and schedule. Afterwards, I'll give you a quick closing summary of what I've gone over tonight, and we'll open it for any questions the public may have. So our project is along the south side of North Beauregard Street between Fillmore Avenue and Berkeley Street. Just to the south of us, we have the spire and the Goodwin House. To the north of us, we have West Alex development over there. Near the middle of our project, we have Newport Village, which is currently under construction. On the other side of the street, we also have Northern Virginia CC. So the purpose of our project is to increase mobility and access along the west end side of the city, connecting our neighborhoods and completing the gaps in the city's bicycle network. Currently at the Spire and at West Alex, they have wide sidewalks in front of their properties, and in between along Beauregard, there's a four-foot-wide sidewalk. So this project will be turning that four-foot wide sidewalk into a 10-foot wide multi-use trail. Along the trail, you'll also have we'll also have a couple retaining walls installed, and eventually we'll have lighting out there. The project is funded through VDOT with CMAC and RSTP funding. And the con the contractor for the project will be Milani Construction. Alright, so on your screen now, you'll see two images. On the left side is the existing conditions that you'll see out there today with the four-foot wide sidewalk. On the right side, you'll see an illustration of what you can kind of expect to see once we're done with construction at certain parts of the project. It kind of varies throughout when we have retaining walls or not, but it's like it's a good idea. Alright, so the first half of our project is between Fillmore Avenue and Braddock Road. So at the corner of Braddock and Beauregard is where Newport Village is. Like I said, they're under construction. You know, we've been in close coordination with them throughout the design process, and now as we are starting up to get construction, we'll be coordinated with it pretty closely as well. The main component of our project is the 10-foot permeable asphalt shared use path along the corridor. Eventually we'll have lighting out there. Near the center of your screen here, you'll see that long blue line that's one of our retaining walls. So the next couple slides here I'll show you. Our two cross sections that you can kind of see throughout the project. One being near Fillmore Avenue, and the second one being in front of New in front of Newport Village once they're done with the construction. Near the corners of the images, you'll see here highlighted feature design by others. So we have a couple other projects in the city. So it's this is one of the first ones, and then eventually the corners will be kind of built out to tie into our trail as well.
