The Appleton Common Council met on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers. Alder Meltzer delivered the invocation, reading from the Dao De Jing. The Mayor noted that May is proclamation month and presented a series of proclamations. The Council approved previous minutes and library board reappointments, held one finance item, and then approved the balance of the agenda. No public testimony was given and no public hearings were held.
Good, Chris. Why isn't it? There we go. Good evening. I now call to order the Wednesday, May seventh, two thousand twenty-five meeting of the Appleton Common Council. Please rise for the invocation, which will be delivered by Alder Meltzer. Thank you. I am going to read a selection from the Dao de Jing. The Dao de Jing is a Chinese poem. It's thousands of years old, and it's been a very important underpinning to a lot of the culture that we know and love. Notably recently we celebrated May the fourth. Be with you all. Joseph Campbell was certainly inspired by the Dao de Jing. So this is a poem that I've turned to consistently over the years and over my life. It gives me comfort. It when things don't make sense, it helps me make sense of them. So I just wanted to share two chapters with you all tonight. It is content with the low places that people disdain. American Legion Poppy Day, Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Silly City Celebration Day, Jewish American Heritage Month, Municipal Clerks Week, Neurofibromitosis Awareness Month, Nurses Month, Public Service Recognition Week, Safe Voting Week, and Teacher Appreciation Day, all happening in the month of May. The proclamations are included in your materials and are being distributed at events and sent out to those in the community who requested them. With that, we'll move on. We have uh item 25-0451.
