Welcome everybody to the presentation portion of our meeting at East Baton Rouge Parish Metropolitan Council this June 24th, 2026. We're gonna begin with Councilman Anthony Kenney. Councilman Kenny. Thank you, Mayor Pro Temp. Council members, today I have some very special guests for District 2 and the Jewel J. Newman Community Center. I have the summer 2026 campers for the Carl Slaughter Summer Camp here today. Campers, give yourselves a round of applause for being here today. Councilmember, this has been a long-standing camp uh camp in my community center for the past uh couple decades, and so during my time in office thus far. We brought the camp back. Um we have over 40 campers throughout multiple schools in the Baton Rouge area. Um we have kids from ages from five to twelve years old here today. And council members, these um kids are very amazing kids. They've been having swimming lessons, field trips, um, their programs, everything you can think about. So they're having a fun, amazing summertime thus far. And so today we just want to recognize them. Um say hello to you all, Mayor Edwards and Dennis did an amazing presentation before recognition today as well. So um, but with these campers, we also have some dedicated staff members that work with these campers on a daily basis. So um fortunately, I don't have to work with them on a daily basis because I know I'll be stressed out uh with all the over 40 additional kids, but I have amazing staff um that support them. So at this time, I want to bring up Miss Ashley Montgomery, the camp director. Let's give Ms. Ashley a round of applause. Also, as Miss Ashley is coming up, I'd like to ask all the camp director and counselors to stand as well, all the camp counselors, and also our my we students are camp counselors as well. All of our my we students interns, please stand up before. Let's give them a round of applause to our interns. Hello, my name is Ashley Montgomery, and it is an honor to work for a councilman uh this summer. I really thank him for this opportunity to work with these wonderful children behind me, and I thank uh my wonderful staff for being here. Um it has truly been an honor to uh work at Jewel Newman uh this summer. Um getting to know uh each of the children. I've actually learned all of their names. Um is been truly a joy uh getting to know these kids and uh seeing the joy on their faces every day uh at camp. Um and I'm looking forward to ending camp with these children and again I thank councilman for this opportunity. All right, thank you, Miss Montgomery. Before we take a group picture, um council members um along with the Jewel Newman Community Center Summer Camp. Uh we are also housing another amazing camp uh called a Hank Summer Camp that's in the Baton Rouge area. Um it is led by some very dedicated individuals who are helping kids uh who not only at risk in our community but all youth in our community as well. It is called a Hank Summer Camp. And today um I have one of the leadership for the Hank Summer Camp, Miss Jude August. Ms. Jude, please come up this time. Good afternoon, Jude August, President of Help and Air Risk Noncompliant Kids, and we have our summer camp hosted at the Jewel J. Newman Community Center. Our summer camp is called Hank Leaves, and it's just important that we provide a safe space for our young adults to learn about leadership, accountability, and community engagement. And we are so honored that you took the time to honor us, and thank you so much for having us at Jewel J. Newman. Let's give them a round of applause. All right, so um to the Hank Leeds Summer Camp, we do have a certificate of recognition and also for all our camp directors. Um at this time, we just want to do a group photo with all of our campers. So uh Miss August and Miss Montgomery, if you want to um bring the kids up to the front, and we'll take a group photo at this time. So, campers, please stand yeah.
