It's designating October 2024 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, whereas more than one in three women and one in four men, and one in two transgender individuals experience some form of physical or sexual violence and or stalking by their intimate partner in their lifetime. Whereas in San Mateo County, 94 adults and children were provided emergency shelter, and sixty seventy-six households were provided longer-term rental assistance to escape their abusers last year. And whereas intimate partner violence continues to be among the most underreported crimes, and Belmont is committed to eliminating all forms of intimate partner abuse. Whereas Belmont, as part of San Mateo County, recognized the critical need for countywide services to support our residents. Now, therefore, be it resolved that I, Julia Mates, mayor of the city of Belmont, on behalf of the Belmont City Council, do hereby designate the month of October 2024 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month to raise awareness about and encourage all residents to do their part to help rid our community of intimate partner violence.
