The Beverly City Council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers and via BevCam. The meeting included a presentation of the Council President's inauguration remarks, an update on city projects by the Mayor, three public hearings (CPA funding for Independence Park, loan authorization for City Hall renovation, and a debt stabilization fund transfer), comments from residents, and approval of numerous routine items. Key debates centered on the $27.895 million City Hall renovation project amid a projected FY27 operating budget deficit.
Well, good evening, everyone. Um, thank you all. Everyone just really got very quiet all on cue. Thank you for that. That made it very easy. Didn't even need this. Um, thank you for joining us this evening in council chambers, or if you're joining us on Bev Cam, our thanks as always to Kim and the Bev Cam booth for keeping our meetings accessible. Thank you so much. Um, it's a pleasure to have folks here with us in the council chamber. I imagine there may be other folks who are planning on coming. We have some uh public hearings that are posted starting at 7 30 today, but I'll mention now and you'll hear me mention again as we get closer. If you are here and interested in speaking in any one of those public hearings, there are sign-up sheets on the table under the window uh over to my right. You can get up and add your name to the one for the hearing or hearings that you're interested in speaking in, and we will take public speakers in the order that they're signed up when we come to that portion of the meeting. Um, as is our usual practice. I'll just run through briefly what's on our agenda before officially calling the meeting to order so that we can all know what's in front of us this evening. We do have a very full agenda this evening. We have a lot going on. Um, at the top of the agenda, we have two presentations, um, one that I'll be making and one that Mayor Cahill will make with an update on city projects. We do have those public hearings, as I as I mentioned, those are posted beginning at 7 30, and we do need to take those at the times they're posted depending on how they're running into each other. We may need to open and recess one of them, but you'll you'll see us open those at their posted times. We do have two folks who have signed up as comments from residents, and so we will take those as we can in the order with those public hearings making allowance for the public hearings, and thank you to those two folks who have signed up, and thank you also for your flexibility with the schedule. Um, and then we've got some routine business that we need to take care of. We'll take a break for some subcommittee work and we'll come back to finish it all up. So, with that, I'll officially call to order this regular meeting of the Beverly City Council, Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, 7 o'clock p.m. Ms. Kent, will you please call the roll? Crawley? Here. Beldman? Here, Housman? Here. Malady? Here. Matando? Sonia? Here. Spang. Here. St. Hilaire? And Flowers. Here. Thank you, Miss Kent. Counselor Retundo, will you lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, please? Our Pledge of Allegiance to the Florida States of America. And to the Republic for which it stands. One nation. Under God. Liberty and justice. Thank you very much, Councillor Retundo.
