Uh the next position was uh to is vacated by Patty Pilkerton, also expiring October 6, 2026, and then Haley Colson Lewis uh resigned um for a term that expires October 6, 2029.

So the planning and zoning committee um is recommending for those uh positions to be filled by Charles Miller for the term for the seat vacated by Councillor Gunn.

Um Ron Hamner uh to fill the position uh vacated by Miss Pilkerton and Lisa Williams to fill up the position vacated by uh Miss Lewis and those first two positions again are terms expiring October 6, 2026, and the last position uh expiring October 6 of 2029, and the um the terms for the planning commission are six-year terms.

Um again, the planning and zoning committee uh is recommending recommended that these uh individuals be appointed at their June 23rd, 2026 meeting.

Of course, we could always use more.

Um, but we're doing an incredible job.

And I've sent an email to all of you inviting you to tour the facility because it's much more than a shelter.

And I have some flyers just to remind you again.

Um, but it is incredible.

We'd love for you all to come and see what we're doing, what the facility looks like, and talk to some of the men that we serve.

It's um our outcomes and outputs are I would put them up against anybody else in the city.

And um, but I really hope you all will take advantage of this opportunity and come and visit the shelter on two days.

Nothing like this would have ever happened before.

And I could tell by the looks on many of your faces, you guys were even shot.

My heart breaks for this city.

For the future, your silence is paving the way for.

It doesn't have to be this way.

We need you all to find your voices, your courage to stand up and do what is right for your city, for the people that you voted for the people that voted you in office.

The city is on the brink.

Under your watch, we could lose control of this city to the like said Tupperville and his game.

Under this anti-DEI crap, how long do you think the Civil Rights Museum will be open?

The Civil Rights Trail maintained.

The city will be whitewashed just as they are doing in our federal buildings and on federal websites.

The very history and heartbeat of our city is at risk, and y'all are sitting here spewing platitudes, misinformation, and lies.

This hyperscale data center conversation has revealed just how broken this administration is.

And you all are complicit.

We, the people see that, and we see that the emperor has no clothes.

Y'all have not held this mayor accountable.

You've sat there quietly while inappropriate and unethical, and I believe occasionally illegal things, actions are taking place.

It is time to start speaking out.

I am currently reside at 1721 Cullum Street South, which is in District 3.

Um let me say good morning, Council and citizens of Birmingham.

I rise today to discuss a very concerning issue, an issue regarding public safety, and the direct negligence and lack of oversight in care at the Birmingham City jail and the fiscal responsibility of city services.

The city council have three primary responsibilities, and those primary responsibilities are to legislate, to advocate, and to appropriate.

In 2017, Randall Wood and ran a campaign stating that we didn't have a crime problem, but we had a problem with poverty.

And yet in 2026, we see very little has been done to address the problems that we see with poverty, with homelessness, with mental health, and with those who have severe disabilities.

The individuals that you will find locked up in the Birmingham City jail who have severe mental health disorders, who have some have cancer, some have other disabilities that this jail does not have the ability to provide the adequate care.

I want you all to go to that jail and see who's currently locked up.

And you'll be shocked and surprised.

You serve as the executive director for the Alabama Justice Initiative.

Where's the justice for Peaches Krosky?

Where's the justice for Kendall Sweezer?

Where's the justice for Xavier Gray and all of those whose lives have been ended at the Birmingham City jail?

Where's the financial responsibility?

The 146,000 plus dollars that was given to Cornerstone in 2021 for a padded sale project that never happened.

Where's the urgency of addressing these issues?

We give this mayor a blank check and allow him to do whatever he wants to do, and no one holds this mayor accountable.

At what point is this leadership body is gonna stand up and address the fiscal irresponsibilities of this mayor?

In the paper today, you have the mayor blasted and this administration for misappropriating 250,000 by his chief strategist.

When are you going to open your eyes and when are you going to hold this administration accountable?

It seems that it is in the best interest of all the elected officials at some point.

I don't want to see that for anybody to be brought down.

But this is a serious matter that this city should be for the people.

And when it happened on June 9th, it was not for the people.

Because the people came out and they said what they needed to say, which was asking you to do the right thing.
