Blacksburg Planning Commission Regular Meeting - July 7, 2026
The Blacksburg Planning Commission held its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the Blacksburg Municipal Building. Chair Mel Jones called the meeting to order and a quorum was present (5 members). The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM.
Consent Calendar
- Approved the June 2, 2026 Planning Commission minutes (5-0 vote).
- Scheduled a public hearing for CUP-26-2 (General Office, Medical Office, and Fine Arts Studio in R-5 Transitional Residential at 700 and 706 South Main Street and 105 Eakin Street SW) for August 4, 2026.
- Canceled the July 7 public hearing for CUP-26-1 (Financial Institution with a Drive-Through Window at 1800 Prices Fork Road) and rescheduled it for August 4, 2026.

- Unfinished Business: No reports were given from the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee (had not met), the Historic or Design Review Board (representative absent), or the Montgomery County Planning Commission (representative absent).
- Planning Director’s Report: Andrew Warren noted that in August, the Commission will need to form a nominating committee to prepare for officer elections (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary) at the September annual meeting. He also suggested August 18, 2026, as a potential date for the Commission’s annual retreat.
- Town Council Report: Jerry Ford, Jr. reported that the July Town Council Work Session included a two-hour-and-15-minute session, with approximately 1 hour 45 minutes devoted to a refresher on general land use policies and procedures given by the Town Attorney. This session also served as training for two new council members.

Welcome to the regular meeting of the Blacksburg Planning Commission. These meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepath Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building at 300 South Main Street. The public may address the planning commission during specific times on the agenda and are requested to adhere to the following. Speak at the podium, state your name and address. Please limit speaking time to a maximum of three minutes. Speak only once during a specified hearing or comment period. So I'll call us to order and do a roll call. I'll I can do roll call. Oh, okay. Okay, so we'll start with the consent agenda. Let's see. First thing is approval of the planning commission minutes. Do I have a motion? We do them all and then we do. Oh, do you all? Yeah. I don't know. Did I do this last time where I tried to do the minutes first? Yeah. Just to just approval of the planning commission minutes from June 2nd, 2026. The action would be to approve. We have a CUP 26 to general office, medical office, and fine arts studio in the R5 Transitional Residential Zone at 706 South Main Street and 105 Eakin Street. Southwest will schedule a public hearing for August 4th. And then CUP 26-1 financial institution with a drive-thru window at 1800 Prices Work Road. Okay, so now do I have a motion? So moved. Okay.
