The Brighton City Council met on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 6:00 PM in Council Chambers. The meeting included consent agenda approval, multiple proclamations and youth recognitions, public comments on a proposed data center and a historic building, a public hearing on a conditional use permit amendment for the Metro Water Recovery Northern Treatment Plant, approval of a new police records management system, and adoption of Stage 1 drought restrictions. The council also held two executive sessions.
Seven individuals spoke on matters not on the agenda:n- Chelsea Sertain opposed theCrusoe Spark Factory (a modular AI data center) at 2260 East I-76 Frontage Road, alleging it was built under the community's radar using a legal loophole to avoid scrutiny as a data center. She claimed it will strain the power grid and property values.n- Bob Snyder complained about lack of code enforcement regarding auto repair shop operations across from a residential area near a private school.n- Tom Lampo offered a prayer for the city and its leaders.n- Robin Kring presented a second set of 239 signatures (total 318) opposing demolition of the historic building at 575 South Bush Street, urging repair and reuse.n- Sonia Brown (representing Wells Fargo Bank and Brighton Cultural Arts Connection) echoed support for saving 575 South Bush, proposing community events and meeting space.n- Michael Miller argued demolition would lower property values and offered alternative uses, including an Emily Giffith-style opportunity school and a bed-and-breakfast.n- Gail McGaugh shared community stories and passion for preserving the historic building, urging halt to demolition.

Item two B final reading of an ordinance of the City Council of the City of Brighton, Colorado, approving the Bromley Park Planned Unit Development, Thirty Sixth Amendment for an approximately one point six five zero acre property, generally located to the northeast of the intersection of Bowie Drive and North Fiftieth Avenue, south of Chickory Circle and west of Purple Mustard Court, more particularly located in the southwest quarter of section two, township one south, range sixty-six west of the sixth principal meridian, City of Brighton, County of Adams, State of Colorado. At this time, I will ask our youth services manager, Tanya Russell to come up and introduce our nominees. I'm so excited to have the honor to introduce you to our special guest tonight. I have with me the some of the nominees for the Adams County Mayors and Commissioners Youth Awards. If you're not familiar with this award, it's a two-part process. So nominators nominate young people who have overcome adversity and continue to make a positive impact in their lives and their communities. So each of these young people were nominated. I have some young people who were not able to make it. So after they introduce themselves, I will let you know about the people who were not able to attend tonight. After nominees are nominated, they go to a second step where they're read by a panel of judges, and several of them will move on to be recognized at the county level. So I'll let you know which of our guests are going to be recognized at the county level as well. So I'm gonna have you all introduce yourselves. My name is Peyton Sol.
