Um, as you all know, we read about this in the paper.

Um more on the side street, the parking lot.

It was concerning.

This is a very serious accusation, and we just don't want this going on.

So tonight we're gonna do discussion.

We're gonna please ask for Major Clerk to come up and talk to us first.

Madam Chair, if I if I may, with your indulgence, um I I'm going to call Major Quirk up to speak uh during the point uh at some point in my presentation.

So with again, with your permission, if you'll allow me to uh basically take the reins here.

There's some housekeeping matters that I I want to get on the record and things like that.

So um just to uh segue into uh the topic, um, as uh Chairwoman Heroyan uh has indicated, there was uh an incident which took place uh at the Zona Lounge, uh located on Iantic Avenue.

I'm sure most of you have read you know the newspaper accounts.

So uh based on that, naturally, the mayor along with uh the council and uh the committee members clearly uh we're concerned.

Uh when these things first happen, unfortunately, we don't have all the information.

So out of an abundance of caution, when we hear shooting combined with neighborhood and alcohol license, um, out of an abundance of caution, we decide to be proactive, and we did take um very serious uh measures to at least temporarily address the situation.

And again, that is prior to uh you know fleshing out all of the facts.

So that's the reason why we're here tonight.

So um I have three exhibits, uh, madam chair that I I would just like um to be accepted into the record uh through motion.

I'll do them one at a time.

There's only three um at this uh juncture.

So the first is of course, which you all have in front of you is the uh tonight's notice of the emergency safety services and licenses committee agenda.

So I'm gonna ask the clerk to just mark this as exhibit one and ask uh for a motion and a second to accept it as uh part of the record.

The second uh exhibit, uh, Madam Chair, uh, which I'm also requesting a vote on is the letter that I drafted that is signed by Solicitor Millet.

This is the actual notice.

It's a cease and desist and a um notice to appear show cause for tonight.

And this lays out the notice requirements that I believe uh are required in in a uh in a procedure such as this.

So this is the letter that went out again.

This would be exhibit two for the city.

I would ask for motion.

At least have a motion to approve exact good.

And the last one, and probably the most important, is the actual evidence that this cease and desist was served uh upon the uh the applicants um on Monday.

This was served.

Uh, I received this from Colonel Winkwist, and um it's attached to a report, which basically indicates that a police officer went, had it physically served uh to the license holder.

And uh on this, it actually indicates the date, the time, and it's signed by Sergeant Parasalt of the uh Cranston Police Department.

So again, as the final exhibit, I would ask for a motion and a second to admit this evidence that notice was delivered.
