Today is Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, times 9 30 a.m. And then I call this meeting the Dallas City Council to order. Our invitation this morning will be given by none other than uh the esteemed chaplain of the Dallas Police Department, and he's one of our chaplains, and he's also the senior minister at the community church of Christ. He's none other than Minister JK Hamilton. Where is Brother Hamilton? He's already here. All right, so we're gonna have our invocation and then our pledges of allegiance. Brother Hamilton, the floor is yours. Dear God in heaven, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for saying yes this morning uh when we woke up and just allowing us to see a day we've never seen before. And now, Lord, since we know you hold this city in your hand, we ask that you would bless this city, bless our mayor, our city council, and the decisions that they make. Dear Father, bless everyone in this chamber, and we'll be careful to give you the praise in Jesus' name. Amen. If everyone who's able would please rise for our pledges to the United States flag and then the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to the Texas, one state, under God, one and indivisible. Thank you very much. You may be seated. All right. Um today's a kind of a bittersweet day for me. I I get to recognize someone who I consider a friend and um a great public servant. Um, but wish I wasn't doing this today. I wish he was gonna be in this role he's i in currently for uh for forever. I mean he's a great guy, but uh I want to recognize uh uh my friend Congressman Mark Veezy, uh, who's joined us this morning for uh something very special. So Congressman Vizy, if you wouldn't mind coming to the microphone, I'll turn the floor over to you. Mayor Johnson, thank you very much. Council members good to be with y'all this morning. How are y'all doing? Good, good. Uh well, I am very proud uh to present uh 250,000 uh from the federal government for federal funding uh for the Bachman Area Transportation Plan. Uh Bachman Lake is an important resource for families and neighborhoods, uh, but busy streets can be very difficult uh and make it challenging uh to safely access. And so this investment will support improvements around Lemon Avenue and Shorecrest Drive along Shorecrest to Harry Hans Boulevard, uh, making the area safer and better connected. And this is really more than uh about roads, uh, it's about making sure that residents can safely walk, bike, and drive and connect to Bachman Lake and surrounding communities. And uh, I want to thank the city of Dallas and our community partners for identifying this as our priority and working with us to move it forward because we could not have done it without you. So thank you uh very much. Uh, and I do want to take a point of personal privilege to say that everybody knows and Eric, I don't know if Eric knows this about me. We've been friends since we were in the state let serve in the state legislature together. Uh, but my mom's oldest sister for years lived in Dallas, and some of my fondest memories, we go to her apartment, she lived on Northwest Highway at the in the Sherwood Forest Apartments, and we would all come from Fort Worth and go to her apartment, and one of the great things that we would do uh as a as a as a large family uh was that we would go to Bachman Lake uh and it was so much fun back then in the late 1970s to be there, and so I'm happy to bring this investment back. And uh and also just want to say that as a Fort Worth guy uh and having served in Congress for seven terms, I want to thank the city of Dallas for embracing me and working with my office so closely. Um I have always tried to make sure that I split my the earmarks up evenly between Dallas and Tarrant County, and I'm very proud to let everyone know that out of all the members of Congress and the North Texas delegation, I was the number one uh requester for congressionally directed spending for the city of Dallas.
