A special meeting of the Davenport City Council was called to order on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to consider a single agenda item: a resolution approving an appointment to fill the vacancy in the Second Ward city council seat. Council members discussed the candidate pool and ultimately voted on the appointment.

Please rise as Alder Woman Brookholder will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. So the Republic for which it stands one nation under God. Indivisible with liberty and justice for all. All right, thank you. Brian, can you call the roll, please? Burke Holder. Job Jen? Here. Blank. Here. Newton. Here. Grip. Here. Lean in. Present. Followway. Present. Vasquez. Here. And Rdun. R done. Okay. Present, Your Honor. All right. Thank you. We have one item on the agenda this evening. It's a uh resolution approving the appointment to fill the vacancy in the second ward city council seat. Uh well, alder person move this resolution. All right, motion and a second. Uh and before I open it up to discussion from council members, I wanted to lead off with my comments. Um first, I just want to say I was extremely excited with the quality and also the quantity of candidates we got. We got six folks that uh threw their their name into the ring. Um all very impressive. Um I could see myself working with any of them. I don't want to speak for council, but I I know that that several of them feel pretty good about the candidate pool as well. Um I think specifically what we're looking for in the second ward, uh, in my opinion, and council can weigh in as well on this, is someone with the ability to hit the ground running as quickly as possible to provide representation to the second ward, and someone who can immediately step in and provide that representation to the second ward. Um, and and another way to say that is um one of the things I wanted to identify as the person uh that had the least steep learning curve from my perspective, just based on their experience, who could um start to very quickly navigate the workings of city government, um understanding how to um kind of receive um concerns or complaints from citizens, get them to the right place to the right staff people to handle and get responses back. Um, and I believe to me that candidate uh or applicant I should say that submitted their information is Bob Ingram, um, 30 plus years on P and Z, five years as the chair, in addition to his very strong just overall resume in terms of his um professional experience. I think, in my opinion, Bob provides uh the um immediate or almost near immediate ability to hit the ground running and provide quick representation to the second ward residents who have been without representation now for a couple of weeks. So those are my comments.
