Well, so the uh Democratic National Commission uh Convention, Site Selection Committee is on their way to the city center at this point, right?

They've arrived.

5:30

Coming in today.

5:31

Uh looking at the A-line here momentarily, if they are not already on the A line.

5:37

Um I I just want to thank you for saving up our 300 days of sun for August 2028.

5:43

Um we're just giving them a little bit of uh, you know, uh part of Denver that people don't normally see, as in clouds.

5:52

And uh so I'm I'm really excited to uh to have conversations with them, talk about how wonderful uh the city of Denver is and how ready we are to uh to host the DNC in August of 2028.

6:04

Thank you so much for your leadership and thank you for I will go with the strategy of we are we are banking Sundays, maybe showing that it can still snow in May.

6:12

Where else can you do that?

6:13

So that's an exciting, unique experience in Denver.

6:16

Uh other announcements.

6:59

Um marks the 1862 Ratha of Puebla where Mexican farmers' forces led under President Benito Juarez, the first indigenous president of Mexico, and they defeated the French army.

7:11

That helped the United States because the French army didn't then come and assist the South in the Civil War.

7:17

Um, and so that is an important holiday here in the United States for those reasons.

7:21

I want to elevate that history because people get really confused on what's thinking my ways.

7:26

Thank you so much for educating us and celebrating.

7:28

Great way to do both.

7:29

Uh Councilman Sawyer.

7:31

Thank you, Mr.

7:32

Mayor.

7:32

Um, really excited for George Washington High School.

7:35

We have another set of state champions at George.

7:39

Um, I did not know this this was a thing.

7:42

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is like a state level uh video game competition.

7:51

And we won it this year again for the second year in a row.

7:55

So speech and debate and video games.

7:58

You have everything.

7:59

Here's the thing like I'm as you know, technology, not my friend, super old school, and they didn't have Super Smash Brothers Ultimate on the original Nintendo NES from 1984, which is the only one I know how to play.

8:12

So respect to the kids who can use the controllers with all the things, because I don't my brain does not work that way.

8:18

Um but yeah, really exciting.

8:20

It's so great to see a group of kids finding something that they're passionate about that they're good at that is you know different and unique, and they won the state championship in it.

8:29

So congratulations to Smash Brothers State Champs.

8:33

Well done.

8:33

That is awesome.

8:34

Councilman Watson, can you top that?

8:36

Uh no.

8:37

But it's gonna be fun.

8:38

Um we have our monthly uh community office hours in District 9 every month.

8:44

We visit a small business.

8:46

Uh we make sure we encourage neighbors to come out and support that business, and then come on and share their thoughts as to what we should be doing in District 9.

8:53

And so it will be uh this Friday, May 8th, from 1 to 2 30 p.m.

8:58

at Lou's Italian Specialties 3357 now north down these streets to come out of five points for some great food and some great talk and to support a small business during small business week, month, and year.

9:14

Thank you so much.

9:16

Thank you so much.

9:17

Other announcements, Councilman Cashman.

9:19

Yeah, thank you, Mayor.

9:20

Um, I want to uh give my thanks to our police chief, uh Ron Thomas.

9:25

Uh the chief and I uh last week, early last week, were at a conference at uh uh the NYU School of Law in New York on right size and traffic enforcement.

9:36

And uh the chief talked about why he decided to put a policy into effect um uh urging his officers not to pull people over for a minor infractions uh referred to as pretextual stops because it's just a pretext you stop someone with a broken taillight in hopes of finding something insidious going on, and the data shows that they almost never do find any contraband, outstanding warrants, weapons, etc.

10:00

And the data shows that they almost never do find any contraband, outstanding warrants, weapons, etc.

10:09

But when the officers uh spend their time uh addressing uh public safety traffic measures, speeding, reckless driving, etc., they end up the percentage of times where they do find something meaningful increases dramatically.

10:28

So it was a great couple of days.

10:30

I really appreciate the chief taking the time and appreciate his leadership in that area.

10:35

We are very proud of him and grateful for you being there because I think it is a strategy that they've discovered that really works.

10:40

Uh Council President.

10:43

Just want to say um thanks to Parks and Rec.

10:46

We had an amazing ground uh Brickman cutting at Marasa Park on Friday.

10:50

And then we had 7,000 bikers um show up at La Rasa Park in the Chicano Pride Ride.

10:55

And I heard that um through that group, they raised $158,000 for scholarships.

11:03

Yeah, that will go directly to Latino and Latinos Latinas in Denver.

11:07

Um, and then just want to give an early happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there who make a difference in our lives.

11:14

They couldn't be where I am.

11:16

I know you I talk about my mom all the time.

11:18

Um, and one of outside of working in this job, one of the best things I've ever done is have children.

11:25

So happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

11:27

Thank you so much.

11:29

Anyone else uh for announcements before we move forward?

11:35

Okay, great.

11:36

Um, we do have two items on executive session today.

11:40

We do not have a general session calendar.

11:42

Wanted to just check in for folks that wanted to share updates and announcements, but I will now entertain a motion to move us into an executive session pursuant to DRMC 234A, sections 136 and 7.

11:55

Purpose of discussing the settlement of pending litigation and legal advice related thereto and federal response to recent city actions.

12:03

All those in favor?

12:05

Any opposed.

12:08

Great.

12:08

With that, we will enter executive session.

12:10

Happy Cinco toma, everybody, and have a great day,
