- Councilwoman Vidress announced a Saturday event with the Rocky Mountain High Institute for Career Development at Columbine Towers at 1 PM, and a bike ride on May 9 at 8:45 AM starting from Rebel Bread Bakery (675 South Broadway). She also gave a historical overview of Cinco de Mayo, noting the 1862 Battle of Puebla.
- Councilwoman Sawyer congratulated George Washington High School for winning the state championship in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate for the second consecutive year.
- Councilman Watson invited residents to monthly community office hours on Friday, May 8, from 1 to 2:30 PM at Lou's Italian Specialties (3357 North Downing Street) to support small business and share district priorities.
- Councilman Cashman reported on a conference with Police Chief Ron Thomas at NYU School of Law regarding right-sizing traffic enforcement. He highlighted the chief's policy urging officers to avoid pretextual stops (e.g., broken taillight) for minor infractions, as data shows such stops rarely yield contraband, while focusing on speeding and reckless driving increases meaningful findings.
- Council President thanked Parks and Rec for the groundbreaking at La Rasa Park on Friday, where 7,000 bikers raised $158,000 for scholarships for Latino and Latina students in Denver, and wished a happy Mother's Day.
Executive Session
- The council voted to enter executive session pursuant to DRMC 234A, sections 136 and 7, to discuss settlement of pending litigation and legal advice related thereto and federal response to recent city actions. No details of the session were disclosed.
