Thanks for joining us for this weekly joint meeting of the mayor and Denver City Council.

0:04

The Mayor and Denver City Council.

0:08

Follow along as the Mayor and City Council members hear updates from city agencies and projects, discuss important city matters, and hear about what's happening across the Mile High City.

0:21

Starting now.

4:45

We don't have a uh a long general session this morning.

4:48

We do have an executive session, but we'll start with introductions and announcements.

4:52

The famous gentleman.

5:14

Good morning, Chris Hines.

5:16

Denver is perfect ten.

5:17

Good morning, Darren Watson.

5:18

Fine, district nine.

5:20

Good morning, Diana Romero Campbell, Southeast Denver District 4.

5:23

Good morning, Amanda Sandoval, Northwest Denver District 9.

5:26

It is a spirited morning here already at Mayor Council.

5:29

We're excited to jump in.

5:31

Announcements.

5:32

Love to open up for announcements that any members have they want to share with each other or for members of the public who want to know about important things in your district.

5:41

So Lori, I would love.

5:43

Have you met Laurie yet, Mayor?

5:45

So Lori is a new addition to our city council staff.

5:50

She is one of our city attorneys.

5:52

So she just started and has a long uh fabulous history.

5:57

She was the assistant attorney for Bullburgh town, attorney for Castle Valley, city attorney for Moab, Utah, I think right before this came from Leadville.

6:09

Correct.

6:10

Was the city manager in Leadville?

6:11

Correct.

6:12

And so she's the newest addition to City Council.

6:15

And she happened to be a district one resident, and met her.

6:22

Totally unrelated.

6:23

And I met her when I was working for Councilmember Espanosa.

6:26

And so we're just so excited to have Lori, but wanted you to know that that's who would be helping us with all of our processes and all of the legislation moving forward.

6:37

And I meant to say this last night, Lori, so sorry I was not thinking correctly, so I will make an introduction next Monday publicly.

6:43

Um but wanted you to be able to have a chance to meet the mayor.

6:46

Well, welcome aboard.

6:47

We're so glad you're here.

6:48

You've served some of the best towns and cities in the Southwest.

6:50

We're so glad you landed in Denver.

6:53

Exactly.

6:55

I imagine you are quite a imagine you're quite a mountain biker after a Moab Leadville uh tour of duty.

7:02

Uh somebody, you know, some are gonna say it's an obsession.

7:04

What's what's more than obsession?

7:07

I don't know.

7:07

You all no, no, like that is the bike.

7:09

Yeah, I'm always I'm always riding my bike.

7:11

So welcome board.

7:13

We're so glad to have you.

7:14

Thank you, Madam President.

7:15

Thank you.

7:15

Other announcements, Councilman Hines.

7:16

Uh thank you, Mayor.

7:17

Um, you know, the um being a barrier breaker is uh is a blessing and occurs.

7:23

Um I uh am the first elected official who uses a wheelchair to get around.

7:28

Um part of that is being an ambassador to the disability community, and um, and also just as uh uh getting into this room.

7:36

I'm the only person who goes into the other door.

7:39

Um, and uh more than half the time that door is locked.

7:43

So uh so then I go wait over at this door to ask someone to uh unlock that door.

7:50

So um this has happened numerous times, and so I just figured I'd um mention it in announcements.

7:55

It would be great uh to have everyone have access, particularly members of the committee, including people with disabilities.

8:01

Thank you.

8:01

Thank you.

8:02

We will make sure and get that door unlocked.

8:04

Thanks for raising it.

8:05

Councilman Alvidres.

8:06

Thank you, Mayor.

8:07

Um, excited.

8:08

We had a great week last week launching the South Broadway General Improvement District.

8:13

Thank you, Tim Hoffman, Chief Thomas, for being there.

8:16

It was an amazing event, and we're really excited about the future of South Broadway in the hands of our new executive director, Caitlin Bronn.

8:23

Congratulations, Caitlin.

8:24

Congrats to you.

8:25

So excited about it.

8:26

Councilman Watson and then Madam President Potem and then Councilman.

8:30

Welcome to a half um announcement for Councilwoman Alvidres, and I know you have much more to say about uh Blucifer um uh music festival that's happening um July 24th through 26 in South Broadway.

8:43

Won't steal any of your stuff because I want to share a little bit about Underground Music Showcase.

8:47

That's gonna be the same weekend.

8:49

Um we are big enough in Denver to have two music uh um uh street concerts that I think they're going to be fantastic, but a little bit more about the Underground Music Showcase, July 24th through 26.

9:01

Um, it's gonna be in uh five points in the Rhino Art District, 200 plus performances across multiple stages and venues, bars, uh, patios, warehouses.

9:11

Um, we're gonna have even beyond the main stages, we're gonna have events uh throughout the art district, so as uh up towards Mission Ballroom, all the way down towards um um uh stuff just south of the railroad.

9:24

So we're going to be having a massive party.

9:27

We're expecting thousands of folks, we're working with RTD for um transportation and parking to make sure that folks don't have to struggle and park into community parking.

9:37

So much fun.

9:38

Much more information is gonna be coming out.

9:40

So block your cameras for July 24th to July 26th for the Underground Music Showcase in Five Points the Rhino Art District with 200 plus of your favorite bags.

9:53

Thank you so much, Councilman.

9:55

Um Madam President Proton.

9:57

Thank you, Mr.

9:58

Mayor.

9:58

Um, I just wanted to uh let people know that the Highline Canal Conservancy is holding the summer scamper um at Bible Park this Wednesday at 5 30.

10:08

Um, super excited about it because the Highline Canal runs about 70 miles, um, starting at Warrington Canyon all the way out to the eastern plains, roughly, just under 10 miles of it is in Southeast Denver, part of 6, a little part of um uh uh district five as well.

10:27

Uh and it's a 5k, so 3.1 miles, you will be able to run on the Highline Canal this Wednesday for the summer scamper.

10:36

I also have a few extra registrations.

10:39

Um so if you contact our office at uh what is our office?

10:43

District 4 at Denvergov.org, we can give you a free registration, but you can also register online or just show up on race day and register.

10:54

So hope to see you there.

10:55

Thank you so much.

10:56

Thank you.

10:56

Uh next up, I have Council Tours.

10:58

Thank you so much.

10:59

And Mayor, this is an update for you as well.

11:01

Um, my office, along with Denver Police Department a while back, applied for a safer streets grant for the state of Colorado.

11:08

And this was for Paco Sanchez, um, our police network investigation location, um, to do some uh work making the underpass of Federal Boulevard safer.

11:18

Um we applied to do mural uh regular cleanups, community activation, and lighting.

11:24

Um and we didn't know going into that how big of an ordeal that was going to be to actually deliver, but it's getting delivered.

11:30

The mural is underway now.

11:32

The lighting should be in uh this month, um, and we're slated for extreme community makeover to be our community partner to do regular community cleanup events with us.

11:42

Um but this is um a long time in the works, and I just want to thank Denver Police Department, uh Dottie, who have been outstanding partners in helping us get this through.

11:52

So if you've ever tried to do something in partnership with CDOT and uh Dottie, it's not easy.

11:59

And um, so we're we're able to actually get this delivered um time and with using all the grand oddlers.

12:05

So just to let you know.

12:06

Great.

12:07

Congratulations.

12:08

Uh Councilman Gonzalez, thank you, Mayor.

12:11

Uh just want to let folks know, myself, councilwoman Lewis, and Councilwoman Parity will be hosting an additional community uh conversation tomorrow evening.

12:21

It will be virtual at 5 p.m.

12:23

to talk about the municipal sentencing reform policy that we have been moving through uh council since I believe January at this point.

12:32

Um but yeah, we want to be able to talk about all the amendments and work that we did just last night by this body and appreciate everyone and in their work in this, but also want to be able to inform the public uh what those changes have been.

12:46

This will be, I believe, our fifth community meeting that we have hosted as we've gone through this process.

12:53

And so appreciate to see folks.

12:55

You can find details on all of our social media, how to sign up uh and register to get a link to participate in the meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24th at 5 p.m.

13:05

Thank you.

13:05

Thank you so much, Councilman.

13:07

Any other announcements?

13:11

Um I would just add, I'm surprised that I stole from anybody else who wanted to.

13:16

Um both a thank you for everyone who came out to Juneteenth.

13:19

Um last Saturday was a fantastic event.

13:20

Thank you.

13:21

So great to see a number of you, Councilman Librez, Councilman Watson, thanks to all you for coming.

13:25

And of course, a reminder about this weekend's uh Pride Parade on Sunday, one of the country's largest.

13:31

We're proud to host here in Denver.

13:33

So it will be uh downtown this year, so slight change of venue from the normal Colfax route, but it is on Sunday, and I think step off is at uh 11.

13:43

Is that right?

13:43

No, it's at nine.

13:44

It's like 9 a.m.

13:45

is step off.

13:46

Um, I think you'll come late now.

13:48

Come late.

13:49

Be there and be ready.

13:50

We'd love to see you all at this year's Pride.

13:52

We'll be there uh downtown this Sunday.

13:54

Any other announcements before we wrap?

13:56

Great.

13:57

Um, okay.

13:58

Well, thank you.

13:59

I will now entertain a motion to move us into an executive session pursuant to DRMC 234A sections three, six, and seven for the purpose of discussing pen litigation and legal advice related thereto.

13:59

So move.

14:11

All in favor?

14:12

Any opposed?

14:14

Okay.

14:15

With that, we will enter executive session.

14:16

Thank you all so much for joining us.
