So with that being said, it is my honor and privilege to present this Spirit of Detroit Award, presented as an expression of the gratitude and esteem of the people of Detroit to the significantly important and tremendously valuable Victor L.

Um it has not been the easiest journey for myself, but I have gotten here, and it wasn't uh all attributed to myself.

I had a lot of help, I had a lot of moral support, and I had a lot of individuals who had faith in me, sometimes when I didn't even have faith in myself.

I think this award that I'm being presented represents uh in myself as well as the city, you know, the resilience, um, the strength, the ability to come back.

Um, this city has provided me with everything that I have.

I was born and raised here, and I look forward to uh offering everything that I can uh within my power to help build it up to its best potential.

I want to see the greatest Detroit that um Detroit has ever seen.

That's it.

It was like they say it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

So from we can tell, we know we know you're not a finished product, you on the right track, and we're all very proud of you.

Also, going back to the first uh comment as it relates to that young man.

You know, back then when I started with the city of Detroit shortly thereafter, your dad had a program, especially to help Detroit residents get into apprenticeship programs, and we had a number of them within the water department.

Too bad we don't have that type of enlightenment today, uh, because that is one way that some people can make a lot more money than some people even who go to college.

You know, I have a college degree, but I know people that had went through apprenticeships and made a lot more money than I did, you know.

So I think we need to be encouraging that.

We need to make sure we have a well-wounded uh populace to uh lots of different types of jobs and job skills, and something like that would be helpful.

Uh also I I would like to see the city of Detroit to think about the fact that I live in District 7.

Right now, there's not a single in District 7.

District 7 has more school age children than any other district.

That's horrible.

You know, this city is not random as efficiency to the best needs of the community as it can and should be.

Uh, I just wanted to say I um I invested $52,000 into skill trades program and uh a hundred million dollars of adult scholarships that put 1600 people to work uh with the jump star program.
