Dormont Borough Council Voting Session - July 7, 2025

  • Appointed Ian Anderson and Aaron Stetzer as Alternate Commissioners to the Civil Service Commission.
  • Approved Jasano Brooks, Rolland King, and Pierce Cook as volunteers with the Dormont Fire Department.

  • Mayor Walsh Statement: Mayor Walsh issued a statement regarding the June 16 arrest of an international fugitive in Dormont. While calling it a public safety success, he criticized the borough's press release, stating it was "perceived by many residents as political in nature" when a neutral statement was needed. He reaffirmed the Dormont Police Department's non-participation in the operation, per the 2021 immigration policy.
  • Administrative Reports: Council President Mazzocco highlighted the active transportation plan and Porchmont program. Borough Manager Stinner reported on the transition of building inspections to MDIA, the TOD development targeting the 2026 NFL Draft, and the upcoming budget season. Solicitor Arensberg reported on a dumpster permit ordinance and the effort to secure a traffic easement.

  • Traffic Calming Policy (Resolution 14-2025): Unanimously approved after a year-long process to create a formal street safety assessment system.

  • Pop Murray Field Retaining Wall (Items G & H): All bids were rejected and re-advertisement authorized due to a design scope change and incomplete bid submissions.
  • Safe Purchase: Authorized $5,900 for a Gardall safe.
  • Public Good Funds: Approved up to $500 for day pool passes as incentives for the DCDC Christmas in July toy drive.
  • Personnel: Accepted the resignation of Monica Dahlkemper.
