I also want to emphasize the important roles of the tree fund and the marsh fund and why we must preserve those monies for the protection and preservation of our trees and marsh.

These funds are not just for today's use, but for the future.

Trees are being felled for development, and new trees will need to be planted to ensure that our tree canopy is maintained.

The primary reason for why the tree fund was established was to plant trees in the wake of development.

And we are falling behind in that work.

Due to ongoing development, which will increase with the requirements of the Growth Management Act, Edmonds stands to lose a lot of trees in the future, and park staff will be needed to plant new ones.

Starting that work should be done now, not later.
