The Edmonds City Council met on May 26, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers. The meeting included proclamations, a transportation impact fee report, a public hearing on the 2027–2032 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and a second reading on family burial grounds. The council unanimously approved the consent agenda and a six-month interim ordinance prohibiting family burial grounds.

One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice. Thank you. Councilmember Olson, would you do the land acknowledgement, please? Yes, sir. We acknowledge the original inhabitants of this place, the Snohomish people, and their successors, the Tullip tribes, who since time immemorial have hunted, fished, gathered, and taken care of these lands. We respect their sovereignty, their right to self-determination, and we honor their sacred spiritual connection with the land and water. Thank you. Mr. Lonnie, can we do a roll call, please? And uh Rowan, I think you're going to be joining me at the voting. As I mentioned, this is to proclaim June 2026 as LGBTQ plus Pride Month. Whereas on June 28th, 1969, patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York City rose up and resisted police harassment. It had become all too all too common for members of the LGBTQ plus community. The events at Stonewall became a defining moment for the LGBTQ plus rights movement in America and our commitment to achieving equal justice under the law for the LGBTQ plus community. And whereas our nation was founded upon the declaration that all people are created equal, that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are among the inalienable rights of every person, and that each person shall be accorded the equal protection of the law. And whereas the City of Edmund supports the right of every resident to live with dignity, equality, and freedom from discrimination. And whereas the LGBTQ plus community has made great strides forward, but equality, inclusion, and acceptance have not yet been fully achieved and continue to be challenged even now in 2026. We must practice and teach these values to future generations. Now, therefore, I Mike Rosen, Mayor of the City of Edmonds, to hereby proclaim June 2026 as LGBTQ plus Pride Month in the City of Edmonds, and I encourage all residents to recognize the significant contributions of the LGBTQ plus individuals, celebrate the progress made towards judges justice and equity, and to join together to ensure that every person is treated with respect, dignity, and equality. As Mayor Mike Rosen said, my name is Rowan Soisett, and I'm the director of Edmonds Pride, which is our local LGBTQ nonprofit that puts on the Edmonds Pride Festival. As a lifelong queer Edmonds resident and director of Edmonds Pride, I would like to say thank you so much to the City of Edmonds for extending this proclamation to recognize June as Pride Month. We're at a very pivotal point in our collective history where we have the choice to keep moving forwards towards joy, acceptance, and community, or to plunge ourselves backwards into darkness. It is more important than ever to be able to put actions behind our words as visibility without protection is dangerous at best and fatal at worst. Thank you.
