So on one side of it, there's a sign that I was under the impression that it already been approved, but I guess it was never submitted.

So that is one of the reasons why I'm here today is to get approval on the signage that is there.

And then the other thing is the fire door that was required to be installed is pretty ugly on the side of the building.

So I have found an awning that will cover the it will cover the actual fire door, but it doesn't hinder the fire door from working.

So it just kind of adds something for more of a appealing look to the side of the building rather than that bulky metal door.

The project is in the Riverside Preservation Area and received Historic Preservation Commission approval on July 8, 2026. Proposed changes: carriage-style garage doors (one on front, two on back), new dormer with solid wood siding, repainting brick in Sherwin Williams Pure White with sage green accent (matching existing brick stripe). Committee members asked about the front garage door (will remain closed), roof changes, and colors. The applicant noted the existing glass brick wall will remain. Motion to approve was made and seconded; approved.

233 SE 3rd St. – Monument sign (Bowen Engineering)

Alison Alpers of Custom Sign presented the proposal to replace the existing monument sign with a new aluminum sign featuring reverse slit channel letters with LED and a small LED border at the bottom. The entire sign, including a limestone cap, will be demolished and replaced with a concrete foundation. Committee members asked about size (same as existing), materials, and brightness. One member expressed support for modernization and noted the sign will not be too large or bright. Motion to approve was made and seconded; approved.
