Um this is to amend the uh already approved uh uh roadblock for September 26th uh for the Tailgate revival uh charity event and uh to uh extend that to uh sixth street to MLK on May.

So I came down in 2006 to go to University of Southern Indiana, so I've been in Evansville now for 20 years, planning on coming here for four.

My band is now out of Nashville.

I drive back and forth or get on a plane and go wherever we're going.

So flew in from Minnesota last night, leaving for St.

I just sent my my daughter to kindergarten here today in town.

I got a second grader here in town, and I think it's community impact.

Uh we've already raised before we sell one ticket, we should be at about $10,000 going to local charities.

I have four Evansville Police Association, chemo buddies, uh, hoofbeat therapeutic horse riding, which supports our local veterans to go horse work in the stables, and then the uh local Evansville Animal Care Center.

So we generated that money through myself, the band, and some local sponsors who I thought the corporate world may come out and help support this event.

It hasn't been, it's been local plumbers, local electricians, everything, you know, garages, restaurants.

So I felt like it was worth me coming in here and saying, hey, I know this is just uh hey, this is a concert going on on Main Street, but it's a little little bit more meat to it.

The reason for being here is one, it's gonna drive commerce downtown.

We have all the local stuff.

What we didn't think through or I didn't think through was I have a big stage coming in.

And that stage unfortunately is not gonna fit within those confines on 6th and 5th.

Um that's really the only thing, only option we have at this point is to have that intersection blocked off so that stage can work, fit there, and uh we have this event in a six weeks or so.

The reason being is if you have traffic coming down the street, they can your stage and they can't turn around.

So you'd have to have barricades by the stage and then barricades at those two intersections.

And that would satisfy EPD, but EPD also worried about closing the extra streets down that.

But as long as you have the barricades, they would be okay with it closing off at Sycamore and Low Cost.

  • Requested approval to accept donations from the Evansville Police Foundation for the following items: Outreach supplies for Mental Health Unit (quantity: 1500), CPO Realtime Crime Cameras (10), Magnet Forensics for Digital Evidence (1), Fox Fury Tactical Electronic Defense Device (1), Bulletproof Windshields (2), K-9 Bite Suit (1), Generator for Command Building (1). Approved unanimously.

Fire Department – Deputy Chief Kim Garrett

  • a) Request to seek bids for a fire boat and tow vehicle, referencing CIP account #44375911-445020. Approved.
  • b) Request to waive irregularities on both bids for IFB 011-02-2025 (replacement of Station 1's roof) and award to the lowest bidder (Midwest Roofing & Construction) pending DLGF approval of the finance ordinance. The irregularities were due to a recent law change making outreach to women/minority-owned businesses no longer required. The motion was initially approved, then amended to include waiving irregularities and awarding to Midwest. Approved as amended.
  • c) Request to approve an indemnity and release agreement with the Land Bank to allow the fire department to conduct training on Land Bank property. Approved.

City Engineering – Jennifer Blankenship

  • a) Approval of handicap parking space installations at 419 E. Michigan Street and 1620 Stinson Avenue. Locations reviewed with no hazards found. Approved.
  • b) Guidance requested on three handicap parking applications at 724 E. Powell, 852 Bellemeade Ave, and 39 W. Columbia Street, where residents have driveways. The board noted concerns about necessity given available driveway space. Motion to table and have staff gather more information (e.g., why driveway is not used). Approved to table.

  • a) Evansville Cultural Experience – Family Day in the Park, Sept 5, 12:00 PM–8:00 PM, closing Bellemeade Ave between Morton and Evans. Approved.
