Um I'm a carpenter by trade, and um I would just uh urge you that any projects or developments that come before you could that contain uh local higher language uh that you support it.

Um any projects that have prevailing wage language in it, um, healthcare and apprenticeship language, you would support it because as a carpenter myself, um I went through the apprenticeship program and um uh I have uh prospered and done well for myself.

Um as far as local hire, uh that is awesome and amazing because many of us drive many hours to and from work.

Um so when you do uh land a job that's close by, uh, it's great because your home and your quality of life goes up.

Um although uh in my case, when I got home at uh 4 30, my wife looked at me and said, What are you doing home?

I said, Well, I told you I had a local job, and but for so many years, you know, I get home at 6 30 or 7.

Um, but I think after 25 years of being married, that uh you know she deserves a little time by herself.

Um, on September 17th, we had another successful community service day with so many volunteers and happy faces.

It was a true pleasure to work with such wonderful people.

Um, from me and my staff and our steering committee, we really want to thank uh the council for their support, the community for their support, uh, the opportunity to uh once again just participate and be part of such a great day of service.

Um we do have a quick overview of the uh results and some of the stats that we got from the community service day and Tom uh Hellman will share that with you tonight.

Uh the dust has semi-settled on the ninth annual community service day.

Um many of the projects have been completed.

Uh the process to culminate that entire day is still in the works as we give some reimbursements back out and to make sure that everybody has uh turned in what is needed to as far as any materials and or equipment provided to them for the work that they have done.

But I've got some information I'd like to share with you this evening.

So on this very special day, we had uh 1620 volunteers participate to deliver over 98 projects citywide.

Those projects included both the projects that were identified throughout the city, some of those that I spoke about, like at BT Collins or the picking up of the trash or at the Natoma Station uh Pond overlook.

And then there's also a number of projects in there that are dedicated to the neighbors helping seniors program um that we'll also talk about.

Um collectively, we served over 4,860 volunteer hours total that day of providing service to the community, which is an amazing uh feat of its own of all of those people dedicating their time, not just for the the short duration, which is roughly about three hours, but really also our project leads getting things ready for the event and for the projects that day.

And then some of those projects did run a little bit longer than three hours, so they were out there into the middle of the afternoon as well.

So that's a that's a good rough calculation, but an amazing number.

Um, our community food drive yielded 30 tons of food to the Twin Lakes Food Bank.

The Neighbors Helping Seniors program completed 62 projects. Sponsors included Intel, Rotary Club of Folsom, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, PGO Financial, Kaiser Permanente, and others.
  • Proclamation: October 2022 declared National Arts and Humanities Month. Councilmember Aquino presented with Arts and Culture Commission members and Sunny Mitchell (Wildwood Performing Arts Foundation) who promoted the upcoming Cash Art Trail dinner and music festival.
  • Capital Southeast Connector Segment D3 Update: Project Manager Brian Reed reported on progress. Segment D3A ribbon cutting scheduled for October 26, 2022.   • Landmark Tree Considerations: City Arborist Amy Nunez presented three individual tree candidates (Grover Valley oak on Sibley St., 'dermatology' interior live oak on Blue Ravine Rd., and 'Hannah' blue oak on Hannah Way) and two groves (Oak Parkway Trail and Folsom Prison oak woodlands). Council discussed jurisdiction, maintenance costs, and benefits. Direction given to: (1) initiate landmark tree designation for the three individual trees (with owner consent), (2) designate the city-owned Oak Parkway Trail grove (with clarified parameters for grove definition), (3) reach out to CDCR regarding the prison grove as a protective measure, and (4) bring forward proposed amendments to the tree preservation ordinance (Chapter 12.16) to address utility notification and other issues.

  • Approved Resolution No. 10924 reducing the Blue Ravine Oaks No. 2 Landscaping and Lighting District annual assessment for FY 2022-23 (11th year reduction per original formation).
