The Fort Lauderdale City Commission held a conference meeting on March 18, 2025, at 1:30 PM in the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Commissioner John Herbst was absent, and Commissioner Pamela Beasley-Pittman arrived late. The meeting covered outdoor event fees, city event sponsorships, homelessness initiatives, Fire Station 13, and the New River crossing. A brief CRA Board meeting followed.
This uh 18th day of March 2025, and uh thank you all for being here. Uh Commissioner Herbs has indicated he's gonna be absent from today's meetings, and Commissioner Pamela Beasley Pittman says she's gonna be a little late, so we thought we'd just get a jump on things before she gets here, maybe uh cover a couple of the uh preliminary matters like the communications to the city. We have a communication from the uh Central City Hold on to kind of download from the Central City uh redevelopment advisory board. Um this is a motion by uh Mr. Liggett, seconded by Mr. Catalano to adopt a new policy that the election of officers for the CRA board be conducted annually. Um have any questions regarding this? Commissioner uh Glassman, do you have any uh any in any input on this? No, I I I understand why it was pushed forward and and what they wanted, and I think it's fine with it. I don't know if they really need our you know intervention in something like this, whatever that board decides is fine with me. Okay, all right. Anyone here from the CRA, Central City CRA? Yes. Uh moving on to business one, outdoor special events. Um who wants to uh discuss this? Oh, Carl. All right, good afternoon, commissioner. Carl, we're on questions like the director. Um I'm here before you today to discuss the outdoor event. Can't hear you on, you have to speak a little louder into the mic. Come on, you hear me? Well, you have to adjust the also there are no lights. I'm used to used to bright lights. Have you heard me complain enough and you turn them off completely now? The mayor is used to probably lie. It's too easy. All right. Uh I you can hear me, but yes. Go ahead. Yep. All right. So I'm here before you to discuss the outdoor event process. Um and for uh context, uh this particular presentation specifically talks about uh how we administer our outdoor events, which is permitted outside events. These are the events that require commission approval. Uh if there is less if there is 500 uh or more attendance, alcohol roll closures, uh, etc. Amplified music. Um so that's for the purpose of this conversation. Now in prior conversations, we have classified our events uh in minor, intermediate, and major. Uh minor, of course, constitutes events that have a sustained attendance of less than 500. Those also have uh road closures, music, exemptions, and amplified music with the uh alcohol. Intermediate, uh 500 one and more to up to 5,000, and then our large events which we consider and classifying as major are sustained attendance of over 5,000.
