- Proclamation – ALS Awareness Month: Vice Mayor Mary Ann Gibson read the proclamation designating May 2026 as ALS Awareness Month. The proclamation highlighted the impact of ALS, noting that every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed and someone passes away from the disease, and that the ALS Association has committed over $154 million to research. The board unanimously adopted the proclamation.
- Beer Board – Temporary Beer Permit for Memphis Oral School for the Deaf: The board convened as the Beer Board for a public hearing. The Memphis Oral School for the Deaf requested a temporary permit to serve beer at their "Speak Easy Hidden in Plain Sight" event on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 11:59 PM at 7887 Poplar Avenue. No public comments were made. Alderman Sanders noted the application was complete, the state had already granted the nonprofit special occasion permit, and the school provided seven certifications of individuals attending. The permit was approved unanimously.
- Consent Agenda Discussion: Alderman Sherry Hicks commented that while the vote on the consent agenda would be quick, the impact was huge. She noted that based on her calculations, of the approximately $3.7 million in total allocations, only about $605,000 came from city tax dollars, with the remainder from state and federal grants. The Mayor commended staff for grant acquisition success.

Good evening, folks. Welcome to the regularly scheduled board meeting for the board, German Towns Board of Mayor and Alderman. I want to welcome all of those that are in attendance this evening here in the chambers with us, those that are streaming as well or watching on GMTV. This is a regular scheduled meeting for Monday, April 27th, 2026. This evening, just a few highlights. We do have a portion of our agenda each and every meeting known as citizens to be heard. So if you'd like to speak to the community and to your neighbors to the board, please fill out a sheet out in People Street, and you will bring that to the clerk or to one of the two officers, and we will recognize you as item six on the agenda. You still have time to grab a sheet and we'll announce that at the appropriate time. Also, this evening we'll take a short recess as Germantown's Board of Mayor and Alderman and we will convene as German Towns Beer Board for a public hearing for a temporary beer permit for on premise consumption on behalf of Memphis Oral School for the Deaf. We have a pretty lengthy consent agenda and as of right now, nothing on the regular agenda this evening. Our introduction, or I'm sorry, our invocation will be led this evening by Economic and Community Development Director Cameron Ross. Our Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Alderman Sherry Hicks.
