The Greenville Planning and Zoning Commission met virtually on August 18, 2020, to conduct public hearings on seven items: two rezoning requests, a future land use map amendment, a controversial text amendment regarding small private schools, and additional rezoning requests. The commission approved the July 21 minutes and unanimously voted to recess all action items until August 20, 2020, for deliberations and final votes.
Okay, Mr. Robinson, we're good to go. Mr. Parker, thank you. Uh welcome everyone to the August 18th Planning and Zoning Commission. I first want to start off by saying thank everyone for their patience. We had to ensure that everybody was hooked up and connected both video and audio-wise. And we also wanted to make sure all of our speakers who have signed up are in the room with us. So again, I apologize for the delay, but we think that's necessary to make sure everybody has uh access. The planning and zoning commission is a public body established by the Greenville City Council pursuant to North Carolina General Statute. The commission makes final decisions on subdivision plots and makes recommendations to the city council on the zonings, text amendments, ETJ extensions, street closings, name excuse me, street closings, street name changes, involuntary involving honorary designations, and comprehensive text and map amendments. We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. But because we're video, we will have a meeting tonight at 6 p.m. as we're doing now, and we'll reconvene on the 20th of August at 6 p.m. to vote on matters that are coming before us tonight. So having said that, I'll ask uh John Collins for the invocation, please, sir. Okay. We come here to do the business of local government, the deliberative body that is closest to the people. As we gather, we are reminded that in our differences there is great strength. We do not all think the same way, but we are linked by our common humanity and our mutual respect. When we work together to move forward, we showcase what is best about our community, our state, and our nation. Let us be guided by the concerns of the citizens and by the invaluable expertise of city staff. And when we leave this chamber, this virtual chamber this evening, let us carry with us the same spirit of service and goodwill tomorrow and every day that follows. Amen. Mr. Collis, thank you for those words. Mr. Parker, would you please call the roll and have a verbal affirmation to the roll call? Mr. Robinson? Present. Mr. Overton? Present. Mr. Parker. Mr. Joyner. Present. Mr. Maxwell. Mr. Maxwell. He seems frozen. He seems frozen. Mr. Collins. Oh, there he is. There he is. Okay.
