The Hollywood City Commission held a regular meeting on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 1:13 PM to 8:04 PM. The agenda included consent items, presentations, proclamations, ordinances on first and second reading, resolutions on contracts and grants, and extensive discussion of a 5G tower siting issue. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Josh Levy and included all seven commissioners.
Today is, of course, Wednesday, March 4th, 2026. It is great to see all of you, especially uh members of our uh public safety uh and Hollywood Police Department here. Uh you know, at the start of each meeting, we always begin with a moment of silence, of course, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. And sometimes we take a uh moment of privilege to uh remember people who uh who we either personally lost or the community lost, and and today we have uh unfortunately uh uh both uh to really take a minute to to recognize. Um if I could, um, you know, Vice Mayor Callary had lost her mom, uh uh Bonnie a few uh now, a couple weeks ago, ten days ago. Um and uh, you know, many of us were at the heartfelt uh uh service at nativity uh where she was remembered, and for those of us, of course, who've known Commissioner Kalary like like we have for many, many years. We got to know Bonnie uh personally, was always uh you know, a great uh spirit, uh always a smile, always enjoying community events, joining us in our passion uh and enjoyment of the city of Hollywood and um you know, during the service, her life was recognized. Uh but uh mostly uh what uh what touches me and of course touches all of us is uh a reminder again that uh Bonnie's uh love for her family and how her family loved her back and and her grandchildren is in the end what was recognized as most important to her. Um and and that love uh in the end reminds us what in the end is should be most important and of course ought to be most most important in our own lives. And so uh we remember uh Bonnie would love Commissioner Clary, and we're we're sorry for your loss your family. We also uh lost uh this uh past week, uh a former city commissioner and county commissioner in our city, uh Suzanne Gunsberger, uh, who uh was the longest serving county commissioner uh in Broward County's history, served as mayor three times, also served for many years here in the Hollywood City Commission. She was remembered again, most importantly by her own her own family as a grandmother and and mother herself, um, and what that meant to her. Um and through her public life, she was of course recognized uh for her uh work uh in furthering the arts in Broward County when it wasn't as big as it is today, environmental protection, uh children's services, uh ethics and government really stood for a lot of things that in the end we have today codified uh Hollywood North Beach Park. I understand she was a champion for uh for preserving and creating and so uh a lot of uh notable accomplishments during her tenure as an elected official. Uh but we also remember her as a person and as a friend as well to many of us uh you know, along the years that we uh had a chance to know her. Uh if there's anyone else who'd like to uh have a moment of privilege to follow up, I um let's go to Commissioner Shoeham. Um I just wanna want to reiterate our uh condolences to the Clary family. Um we're all gonna miss Bonnie. Uh with respect to Sue Gunsberger, in addition to what you said, she was just an integral uh member of the um of District One in the Hollywood Lakes community. Uh she's member remembered by so many for her public service, but we'll remember her for her private service as well to her neighbors and I know so many people that will walk around that lake in the morning and not get used to not seeing her. So two amazing women uh lost in a short time. So it's a time. And as I understand, I must say during both services, uh both of them really enjoyed a nice glass of wine. Uh and so uh I mean next time you say cheers, uh, think of both Bonnie and Suzanne. Uh let's with that please rise for the moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. I failed to mention the uh service members of the U.S. Armed Forces that we also lost this week, so let's honor them as well. Thank you. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States.
