The Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board met on September 2, 2026, at 9:00 AM in City Hall. Public Comments & Testimony
- Claudia Villatoro (CEO, Villa Toro Global Foundation) requested guidance on CRA support for a non-political human trafficking awareness event planned at Arts Park on January 30, 2027. She had a permit but was exploring other locations. Board Member Hernandez suggested staff follow up.
- Bob Glickman (Hollywood Beach resident, Planning Board secretary) raised concerns about dirty crosswalks, dying trees, and FDOT construction bottlenecks at A1A and Sheridan Street. He also questioned the legality of a joint meeting vote where some Planning Board members were not invited. Board Member Shuham asked General Counsel to provide a legal interpretation.
- Jesse Hernandez and Christina Monilo (Hispanic Affairs Council) invited the board to participate in a Hispanic Heritage event on October 10, 2026, at Arts Park, featuring a parade of nations, artists, and sponsors.
Discussion Items
- Items 6 and 7 (Phase IV Undergrounding and Surf Road Relocation): The CRA approved an amendment with Burkhardt Construction increasing the contract amount from $76,458,080.36 to $77,362,002.74 for installation and utility relocation of the new Surf Road right-of-way. A companion funding agreement with Pride Hollywood Beach, LLC, for reimbursement of $903,922.38 was also approved. Board Member Shuham expressed concern that the funding agreement did not indemnify the CRA against construction issues since the CRA controls the work. Despite her opposition, both items passed 6-1.
- Item 8 (A1A Mid-Block Pedestrian Crossings Presentation): Eric Katz of Marlin Engineering presented a feasibility study identifying four locations for mid-block crossings with rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) between Johnson and Sheridan Streets: Thomas to New Hampshire, Missouri to Coolidge, Cleveland to Connecticut, and Grant to Minnesota. FDOT’s Jonathan Overton expressed support. Bob Glickman spoke in favor but raised concerns about a proposed traffic light at Scott Street, which he feared would space out crosswalks and worsen traffic. Board members supported the project and directed staff to identify and set aside funding, proceed with community outreach, and coordinate with FDOT on design.
Informational Reports and Updates
- Band Shell Paint Scheme: Executive Director Raelin Storey presented options for painting the band shell, including coquina stone, blue accents, and a wave effect. Board provided feedback and staff will return with a final design.
- Cinema Paradiso Update: Jennifer Holman (Executive Director, Hollywood Art and Culture Center) reported that attendance has increased, and funding for the cinema will shift from marketing to economic development dollars in FY2027. Board suggested marketing to new downtown residents and partnerships with restaurants.
- Deputy Director Retirement: The board recognized Susan Goldberg, Deputy Director, for 26 years of service, highlighting her leadership in the Broadwalk revitalization, Charno Park, and numerous CRA projects. She will retire on September 10, 2026.

So if you are a member of the public or any person here and you'd like to speak to the board regarding any CRA business, you have an opportunity to grab a comment card from Lisa right there, and we'll give you an opportunity to speak. My name is Claudia Via Toro, and I'm the CEO and founder of Via Toro's Global Foundation.org with Wi Fi child trafficking. So I'm organizing the non-political community event against human trafficking at the Arch Park at the Junge Circle on Jet on Saturday, January the 30th, 2027. I have this. I got this permit about a month ago. But after I talked to Josh uh to Mayor Levy, uh we talk about other opportunities maybe in another place. Our purpose is simple. Raise awareness, protect children, and give families information that can help prevention prevent exploitation. Our purpose is simple. The event will be open to the public, and it will bring together community leaders, future speakers, elected officials, live music food trucks, and local partners. I am asking for a brief and follow-up meeting with the appropriate staff and discuss eligible promotion, coordination, sponsorship, and a kind of assistance and a possible the support under the city and CRA policies.
