Pretty close for us, huh?

2:42

And she goes by Judy, but with an I, because you just take the T and the H on.

2:46

Oh, right.

2:46

And I have a Y, yeah.

2:48

Oh.

2:48

Then you should have called me Catherine.

2:51

Yeah.

2:54

Pledge of Allegiance.

2:58

I pledge allegiance to the flag.

3:12

Okay, I'm sure everybody read the August eighteenth minutes.

3:16

Yep.

3:17

And I thought there was something on there.

3:20

Oh, so what happened there was I put something on it.

3:26

I forgot, and then I added it.

3:29

But I when I sent Evelyn the minutes, I forgot to add on what I put on.

3:34

So I never got on there.

3:36

So I got we're not gonna add it in, we'll just talk about it tonight.

3:39

The stuff that was sh we wanted there.

3:42

Um okay, so that was done.

3:48

Input old business.

3:52

Um I have been talking to Nick, texting with Nick.

3:56

And I didn't get a text back.

3:59

I got a new phone and it's killing me.

4:02

I'm gonna go back to my old phone pretty quick.

4:18

So I guess they're trying to make a sign.

4:20

They're making a sign for us.

4:22

He originally made stickers and we're gonna put them on steel.

4:26

Uh, but I guess he's actually making a sign now.

4:28

Because I told him I misinterpreted what he said.

4:32

So um I thought we'd have something back for that.

4:36

Um so the sculpt project I did try to get a hold of Jeff.

4:44

Jeff.

4:44

And he didn't get a hold of me again, so I'm gonna try it this week.

4:48

I gotta I'll be around most of the week and we'll try to see if I can go to their meeting and and try to touch base with them.

4:55

So I'm the one screwing that up.

4:58

Uh so at the beginning.

5:00

So at the beginning, um when we put the pavilion in, and Ben came.

5:07

We had talked about a walkway and uh an asphalt walkway, but we've been in default budget ever since Ben came.

5:15

He brought us bad luck.

5:17

And uh so with this new thing that we we did get it passed that we can track that the price is gonna go up five dollars and we can take that money towards our projects.

5:28

So I was just putting it on the books on the stuff that we could add up to do, uh, that would be one of the things to put on the books that uh you know when we run out of stuff we'll try to spend some money that we can just throw it on.

5:42

So we'll get it sometime we'll get a um a price on that.

5:46

I talked to Ben about that walkway.

5:48

Yeah.

5:49

And uh he said there's something probably that we would do in-house as far as digging it out, you know, prepping it and all that.

5:58

So I have discussed it with him.

6:00

So once we get it all set up when we start getting some money coming in now, yeah.

6:04

I mean, uh the extra money, all that money goes into parks and rec revolving funds.

6:08

Yeah.

6:09

So it's just saying, okay, the advisory board is recommending highly whatever that we want to put that paved walkway in.

6:18

Yeah, and then it would come out of that line.

6:20

But we're just gonna keep track somehow.

6:23

We gotta come up with it in writing to make sure nobody takes our money, is what I understood we're supposed to do.

6:29

It's in yeah, it all goes into one line.

6:32

But like if we now we'd have to find out like um like does the church pay when they have a service here.

6:39

Yeah, I forgot to ask that one.

6:41

Because they're a non-profit, but everybody that rents is non-profit.

6:45

They should be.

6:50

I didn't know if we'll give them a freebie or not.

6:52

They should be paying.

Hooksett Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting – September 15, 2026

The meeting covered approval of prior minutes, updates on park projects, a fee increase for gym rentals, a dispute over the storyboard process with the Heritage Commission, and exploration of a potential new park on Park Lane. The board also elected officers for the coming term.

Consent Calendar

  • Approval of August 18, 2026 minutes: The board noted that an addition discussed at the previous meeting was not included in the circulated minutes. Members decided not to amend the minutes and instead address the omitted topic during current discussions.

Public Comments & Testimony

  • No public comments were offered.

Discussion Items

  • Nick’s Sign Project: Chair reported that Nick is now producing a sign instead of the originally planned stickers on steel. No update on the sculpt project (Jeff not reachable).
  • Pavilion Walkway & Gym Fee Increase: The board discussed using the $5 fee increase (approved by Town Council) for gym rentals to fund a paved walkway to the pavilion. Members noted that the additional revenue ($60/week estimated, ~$2,500/year) goes into the Parks and Recreation Revolving Fund, and any project expenditure requires a formal request to Town Council with staff report and quotes. The walkway could be done in‑house with Highway Department assistance.
  • Rob’s Park Superintendent Report: Activities included painting athletic fields (Colie, Petersbrook, Donati, flag football, soccer, field hockey), moving flag football fields to reduce wear, filling low spots for safety, fixing an irrigation valve, installing storyboards with safety corners at Riverside Park, setting up for Old Home Day, mowing the Hedge trail for the 5K race, receiving benches for the track (one donated by Sam), obtaining a low quote from a paving company for the walkway (possible installation this fall), delaying net installation to spring, awaiting top dressing for the 11v1 field, and planning aeration, slicing, and fertilization.
  • Randall’s Town Council Update: Confirmed the fee increase and reiterated that for project funding, the board must present a staff report, quotes, and make a case to Town Council. Stated unsold town‑owned properties are being auctioned, with proceeds going first to back taxes, interest, and legal fees.
  • Park Lane Property: Members discussed a 9.8‑acre town‑owned parcel on Park Lane as a potential small park or picnic area. Concerns were raised about funding for existing tennis courts needing costly replacements. Another 25‑acre property near Polley (landlocked, offered by owner at nominal fee) was mentioned as a possible conservation or recreation area; the board noted it is under consideration by the Conservation Commission and Town Council.
  • Storyboard Dispute: Chair expressed ongoing frustration with the Heritage Commission’s handling of the Riverside Park storyboard project, citing disrespect and delays. Council member Randall advised the board to move forward, implement better communication protocols (formal emails, agenda tracking), and accept that as an advisory board, their recommendations may be overruled. He also offered to look into whether Heritage Commission meetings could be videotaped.
  • Election of Officers: After initial reluctance, Judy was nominated and unanimously voted as Chair. Andy was nominated and voted as Vice Chair. The secretary role was kept as a revolving duty among members.
  • HYA Report (Scott): Summer sports are winding down; fall sports (baseball, soccer, flag football, basketball) are starting. Confirmed the $5 gym fee increase. Noted the Park Lane property as a potential site for a new park, dog park, or playground, pending further investigation and history of the parcel.

Key Outcomes

  • Fee increase: Effective for gym rentals; proceeds go to the Revolving Fund. The board will track the additional revenue.
  • Walkway project: Will move forward with a formal request to Town Council once a clear cost estimate and funding plan are prepared.
  • Election: Judy as Chair, Andy as Vice Chair; secretary duties to rotate.
  • Property explorations: The board will contact Town staff to obtain more information (history, wetlands, access) on the Park Lane parcel and monitor the 25‑acre land offer.
  • Communication improvements: Future interactions with other boards will be documented in emails with minutes and timelines to avoid past misunderstandings.
