Welcome to this Liberty Minute, part of Huntington's celebration of 250 years of American independence. This was the home of Job Samos and his family. Samos was a weaver by trade. His house was immediately adjacent to the village green, where local militia trained. Samos agreed to store 100 pounds of gunpowder in his house for the militia. During renovations of the building in the 1930s, Revolutionary War-era muskets were found hidden in the floorboards. The house was purchased by the town of Huntington in 1974 and restored to its 18th-century appearance. It is now known as the Arsenal and is home to the Huntington Militia, a living history reenactment group. Thanks to the sacrifices of generations of Huntington Patriots, Liberty endures.
