The Huntsville City Council held its regular meeting on September 11, 2025, at 5:30 PM in Council Chambers. The meeting included special recognitions, public hearings on nuisance abatements, approval of Huntsville Utilities capital budgets, introduction of the FY2026 budget, and extensive public comment on immigration enforcement, smart meters, and the proposed "City Detect" surveillance program. The council took several votes and heard updates from city administrators.
Key voice named Gino Rosario, who's based in Pensacola, Florida, will perform our opening act. Gino has performed with a litany of artists who are doing some amazing work in the area of smooth jazz. And then LA Bass, Pamela Williams, a veteran saxophonist who was named top new female contemporary jazz artist in 1996. Her first album has been over five months with the Billboard charts, and she has been blazing the trails ever since. But it is a jazz double bass experience with Felicia Ray and Jacob Whipp. They have a phenomenal combo. And they're doing some amazing work in the area of smooth jazz. And then finally, my personal favorite. So we think we have one of the best lineups that we've ever had. And we're very excited to have these individuals be a part of our festival once again. And the lineup that he put together that's a rich mix of that talent from national, regional, and local uh recording artists. And uh they deserve to be heard and seen on a larger stage. And also very proud to uh since the beginning of um the music office's inclination when we launched Huntsville Music Month in September to uh make sure that Jazz in the Park is a pillar of that month. And so we'll be kind of gathering up and reaching out again to talk about uh all things uh Huntsville Music Month, and so to be able to announce this first ahead of everything is something we're really proud of. And so a reminder, these concerts are free and open to the public and the new venue at Big Spring Park West, which means whether you're a jazz aficionado or just curious, there is a space for you out there, and that's what we want to keep building a music ecosystem where everybody feels welcome and we're attracting world-class talent. I hope you'll mark your calendars the for uh every Sunday in September. Bring a lawn, and that's a very good thing. Good evening, Huntsville. For the record, all council members are present, and we will begin our meeting tonight with an invocation led by Chaplain Zach Johnson, followed by a performance by the Lee High School Chamber choir of our national anthem. If you would please stand if you are willing and able. And the logice has a lot of stay no expankable. Please don't go. Stay on the stage. Choir, choir, please come back up on the stage. That's fine. If the choir would stay up here, and the director, thank you so much. I was so mesmerized when you started, I thought I was going to get to sing with you, and I realized that they never let me even sing in church. So uh so I better not join join in, I better turn around and face the flag. But to all of you, we want to say thank you so much for uh helping us celebrate music month in the city of Huntsville, and by doing this and starting us off right, it's a great day on um September 11th to be doing that to uh so that we can remember uh how we are proud as a nation after uh our response after after that happened. And thanks thanks to each of you for coming here and being part of this. We have a little uh resolution or plaque for you that is presented to the Lehigh School Chamber choir uh for significantly contributing to the inclusive, inspired, and creative music environment enhancing the quality of life of all of our citizens and visitors.
