She then read a letter from City Manager Aretha Adams dated June 6, 2025, which stated that despite fundraising efforts over seven years, the project had not met financial goals; the City Council had decided to rescind earlier verbal commitments and the designation of land in Central Park, instead offering a small-scale tribute at the Murphy Fire Department flagpole area. Lang reported that the MVT board met on June 9 (likely 2025) and discussed the new direction, emphasizing the need to inform donors and citizens.
- An additional speaker (address given as 1000 North Murphy Road) expressed full support for the veterans tribute and disappointment at the council's decision to not approve the original site. He stated that the proposed site facing Murphy Road is not suitable and requested the council reconsider a suitable location for children and elderly visitors. - Appointment of Boards and Commissions Interview Committee: Council members Laura Dill, Andrew Chase, and Scott Smith were appointed to conduct interviews with applicants. The motion passed unanimously.

Would you like to come up and chat with us this morning? This evening. Welcome, Ms. Lang. Thank you. My name is Mary M. Lang. I'm a board member of the Murphy Veterans Tribute. My address is 804 Easter Drive in Wally, Texas. I am a Vietnam Air Vet Air Force. I served from 1968 to 1972. Good evening. I am here to give an update on the Murphy Veterans Tribute. Shane Garth of Garth Designs has worked with and prepared architectural drawings for the Murphy Veterans Tribute. Nan Faith of the Nan Faith Arnold Company worked to help us with vendors. The City of Murphy wrote resolution 24-R-1094, a resolution of the City Council of Murphy, Texas, acknowledging a future partnership with the Murphy Veterans Tribute in connection with construction and ongoing maintenance of a Veterans Memorial in Murphy, Texas. Now therefore be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Murphy, Texas, as follows. Section 1.
