And I'm John Barth, Chairman of the Committee.

Um, so the two things um this evening.

Uh one is a presentation um from Indiana Conservation Voters and Citizens Action Coalition about the General Assembly and the outcomes of the General Assembly uh when it comes to environmental matters.

And then secondly, um an update on the Thrive Indianapolis plan.

So I know you didn't hear the words data centers in there, but I see there's a lot of folks here who I know um who thought there was uh hearing on data centers, but there's not.

This the we never had a hearing on data centers, so that was um inaccurate.

So um there is reference to data centers in the legislation um portion uh of the of the presentation um related to um matters have to do with the General Assembly.

So if you're here, because you thought there was a uh uh hearing on data centers, you want to raise your hand.

Oh, just one person.

Well, because um uh I was gonna uh uh I didn't want people to come down and not have the opportunity to express themselves.

So if if you're opposed to data centers, why don't you stand up?

Just okay.

So there are there's a lot of people here.

So I guess this is what I would invite you to do.

Those of you who are here to uh regarding data centers, and because um we we don't actually have uh specific uh item related to data centers.

What I'm gonna suggest is between these two presentations, um if you could uh deputize uh one person to represent your group and come up and express your views to to the members of the council who are here.

That way I want to make sure you have the opportunity to share your do your thoughts with us.

But I but again, because we're not um uh having uh that matter on the agenda, I don't want to spend uh a huge amount of time on it.

But um, please coordinate and then after the this first presentation, I'll ask someone to come up and share your thoughts on on the data centers and maybe it's Decatur Township, maybe it's Pike Township, um, whatever you you might want to share.

We'll have two minutes to do that um in in between the two presentations.

And and and I also appreciate you coming down to the Environmental Sustainability Committee.

You're invited to come every month, even when it's not um uh suddenly 50 degrees and then 20 degrees.

So uh that the fact that you came uh it shows you how how passionate you are about this issue.

So with that, let me turn it over to our two speakers, um, Kieran and Delaney um to update us about the um Indiana General Assembly.

I want to thank them for coming um uh and for the work they do um over at the General Assembly.

I've I've worked over there intermittently for a long time, and it's uh it's a complicated process and it really takes a lot of dedication and effort to stay on top of the issues and to get to know all the legislators and to really uh dig into the minute changes that get made from time to time.

So uh thanks for your work and thanks for your presentation.

So if I can turn it over to you and you could uh introduce yourselves and then go ahead and get started to light the that one.

Um hello, my name is Delaney Barbara Kwan.

I'm the government affairs director at Indiana Conservation Voters.

And I'm uh Colonel, the executive director at Citizens Action Coalition.

Okay.

Um we can go to the next slide.

This is just kind of our contact information and introduction, and then the next slide.

Um kind of hard to read, but this is just a broad overview so we can get to the meat of the presentation.

But this shows how Indiana's energy generation fuel mix has changed over time in the last uh decade or so, largely from coal generation to less coal generation and more natural gas, but you'll see some other energy mixes in there as well.

Yeah, I would just add that this is only look at the last decade, but when I started doing this work over 20 years ago, Indiana was effectively 96% reliant on coal-fired power.

And for the most part, we've effectively replaced most of that coal-fired power, shifted to gas, another fossil fuel.
