And why don't you guys go ahead and approach uh and kind of give us a just tell us a little bit about serving on this board, uh, maybe a little bit about yourselves and just give us a rundown on what's going on with the PEETABOA.

Yeah, go ahead.

So this board is the property tax assessment board of appeals.

It deals with people filing exemptions, people appealing their property taxes, and then going through the process.

And you guys are kind of the arbitrating board that um is convenes every month.

Uh so you have five people and correct.

So Steve, you're the chair.

Do you want to just fill us in a little bit?

Yeah, my name is uh Steve Adramie.

I've been on the board probably since first point back in 99, 1999, and uh you said we hear appeals, we are exemptions, and I think we do a good job working with each other together, and we would have a good relationship with the assessor, and once a while the auditor's office comes in because for um homestead deductions and stuff we've got to work in with them too.

So I'm Greg Rath now.

Um I was appointed in 2020.

Um, and just it's uh you know I really genuinely appreciate being part of this board and you know love love working with these guys and um you know serving the city in in this capacity.

Well Kevin Robinson been on the board for several years.

I don't know what actual date it was.

Um enjoy serving on the board fighting for uh the county and the uh taxpayers of Marion County by the law.

Um just making sure that everybody's on the same page with information, and a lot of people don't know the information, so they learn a lot when they come before the board.

So moving forward, we try to make sure that they have the correct information so they don't get further in trouble sometimes when they find out.

So it's uh been rewarding and I enjoy helping people and making sure everybody's on the same page.

Yeah, I agree.

I I think it's I mean, sitting on a number of boards that I do.

I I do I do think this board takes the time to help the taxpayer or the citizen who is in need of you know a problem fixed or something they're going through.

So I feel like you guys do deliberate and do a good job of dealing with uh taxpayers and constituents.

That'd be fair and equable with everybody.

Next we have Tyler Graves to uh reappointment to the Alcohol Beverage Commission.

Thanks for having me.

Yeah.

I just want to tell us a little bit about the ABC board.

Sure.

Um Tyler Graves.

I've served on the board, I believe it's about 13 years now.

We handle, well, the board is made up of uh appointments from Speedway, Beach Grove, Lawrence, the Mayor's Office, the City Council, and then I represent the three of you.

We hear new permits.

Anybody's getting a new license for the first time, transfer license, somebody's gonna move their location or transfer the address associated with that license, and then violations.

You know, people who've had a license, they've broken some sort of law, then they need to come in and answer to us about that about that violation.

We'd tell you um, you know, violence in the bars.

You see it, you read about it.

The only thing I can tell you is we have no qualms with making a recommendation to the state of Indiana to yank those licenses at the very first moment that they can.

If someone's not gonna operate their license um based on the standards that we've set, they don't deserve that license.

That's how we approach those meetings, and um that's not a problem for us.

Ultimately, we make a recommendation to the state board.

Uh the state then hears the case, and they would either support us or uh ask us to hear the case again, or they may just overrule us.

But for the most part, the state of Indiana's uh uh excise office, they're they're partners to ours.

Would you say there's been a higher number of cases than usual with uh violations?

It seems like maybe they're just more notable, but you've had yeah it seems like a number of bars that things are getting out of hand with violence and it's twofold.

One the violence is happening, those those guns are being used, and they're also you know, there's a responsibility of the media to cover those doors, and I don't blame them for doing that.

I can't say uh I I could ask and find out if there's an actual uh uptick that we could point to.

Um I can't answer that question.

No, no, it's fine.

It just seemed like there has been maybe some more notable things happening.

I mean it's bad.

Yeah, we had three people shot right downtown, you know.

Bar owner had uh security with wands.

That's you know, some of the questions we asked them.

How are you gonna secure the patrons that you have?

And they run through either metal detectors or they go through all they have their own hired security and um it didn't work.

Three guns got in.

Three people are injured, a couple dead.

Yeah, but they won't have that license long.

Yeah, all right.

Why don't you just since you are a new appointment, uh, maybe just a little highlight of what what you've been doing and you know, kind of you your desire to uh to you know why you want to serve on the Indianapolis Public Library Board?

Uh yes, sir.

So I am from Indianapolis, uh born and raised here, spent time in California for a short period, but um outside of that a lifelong resident of Indianapolis.

Um I've utilized the libraries for years.

They were pivotal in my upbringing uh during uh my time going to school here to the time that I transitioned to um attending IUSO now attending Purdue for a different program.

Um but the the libraries are critical.

Um a critical conduit for the youth in our community, um the adults in our community for finding employment, um bolstering their educational skills.

Um and I'm interested in joining this board because I feel like it provides a great opportunity to um kind of uh provide some input into the processes that are currently taking place, the um mechanisms that are currently being used to reach the community, um, the methods of technology um that are being used uh within the libraries to uh further um improve the uh the skill set of our community.

Um I work as an engineer and I uh spend a lot of time with robotics, uh programmable logic controllers.

So I understand the importance of of uh uh technology, um and that's kind of uh where my skill set falls.

Um so I feel like joining this board um with such a prestigious group of people, mostly doctors, which I am not, but uh you know, being able to join a group of of this caliber um and be able and being able to offer this uh type of perspective, I feel like would be uh beneficial, um, and I would just like the opportunity to do so.

Um Dr.

Payne um is uh a great person and has uh contributed to the community greatly over the years, and she has very big shoes to fill.

So I do understand the um undertaking here, but I would like the opportunity to uh do so.

Um, and if you all aren't happy with it, um I am more than able to um uh step aside if you decide to, but I would love the opportunity to um actually prove myself in that regard.

All right, so you're an IU guy, but you're doing robotics.

Well, the the thing that's changed.

I went to IU after graduating high school.

I attended Indianapolis Metropolitan High School, it's a charter school down uh not far from here.

Um and uh since then I'd uh gotten into working and uh with uh in a lot of technical aspects on a lot of technical projects and different things.

So everyone that I've worked with has gone to Purdue.

My son's at Purdue now for computer engineering technology, so he's he did robotics in high school.

Oh, he's on a great path.

Yeah, and that's that those are the type of um avenues that I think or partnerships could that could be valuable you know as it relates to the library.

Um I spoke um to the um superintendent of IPS some time ago and and when they were working on uh the um project with Cummins or their initiatives with Cummins, I thought that that was great for the youth in our community because these are the skills that are going to be necessary over the next 30 years.

So um that's just the contribution that I would like to make.

We have as we reach out for geographic diversity, it's nice to have someone from the southern tier township serve on the board.

So yes, and I've also um I understand the the political dynamic on the South Side, but I've put myself forward and and various campaigns I'm in for city council as well as state rep, um, understanding that those probably weren't winning campaigns, uh, but it was definitely worth uh pursuing uh because there needs to be balance in the process, um, and I do love having the ability to represent the South Side because I feel like it's underrepresented in most of uh what happens um you know throughout the city.

Yeah, I agree.

So moving on down the agenda, we have discussion and consideration of the Indianapolis as a potential host city for the 2028 National Association of Counties of NACO National Conference.

I know we the last meeting we had, we had a special meeting and we heard some uh presenters about coming to our city hosting the National Association of Counties.

Um I think it's a great opportunity for this city to show off what it does best, which is host conferences.

Um have we all had the ability to review and decide on are we voting today on whether we should on the MOU?

Okay.

And I think it's worth noting that we would partner with the Association of Indiana counties and their board voted to approve and sign the MOU.

So we would have a true partner in this.

And I've had several conversations with the executive director of AIC, David Boderworth.

Um, and he's very excited about this opportunity, and it's already done a lot of work behind the scenes.

So any thoughts or questions on this Mr.

Chairman, I move approval of the that we would be allowed to sign the MOU as the Marion County Commissioners uh to commit to the 2028 NACO National Conference coming to Indianapolis.
