The Joliet City Council held its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 6:30 PM in Council Chambers. Major actions included the unanimous approval of a comprehensive amended development agreement for the Rock Run Crossings project, anchored by Dick's House of Sport, and the adoption of a six-month pilot social district ordinance for downtown. The council also approved multiple infrastructure contracts, zoning changes, and heard public testimony on various topics.
Motorcycles as well as promoting motorcycle safety, education, awareness, and respect of the citizens of our city and state in the motorcycles of Illinois have contributed extensive volunteerism and money to national and community charitable organizations. And we're at during the month of May, all roadway users should unite in the same sharing of rural ways within the city of Julia and throughout the great state of Illinois. Thank you, Sadie. Thanks, everybody. Appreciate it. Thank you. We appreciate you on a bait, too. Thank you. Next, we have a proclamation recognizing Saint Joseph Parish, presented by Councilman Clement. All right, we have Mary and Scott here. The uh father cannot make it, but thank you for coming. Um this is a reference to the 135th anniversary of St. Joe's. I mean, we've all most of us have been through, have been at St. Joe's many times for various reasons. Uh St. Joe's Park. Um you can see the photos there. Dave Sloan from uh Accents Lighting did an incredible job. It's absolutely stunning. So you guys did a great job. So here's a proclamation. Proclamation. Whereas immigrants from Slovenia began to settle in the Joliet area during the 1880s to find work, raise a family, and establish a Catholic church that would safeguard our culture and religious patrimony. And whereas on May twelfth, eighteen ninety-one, Reverend Sosteric celebrated the first mass of the newly formed St. Joe's Slovenian Catholic Parish of Julia. And whereas by 1905, St. Joe's St. Joseph's Parish built their current church located on the south end of Slovanian Road at that time, north of Jackson Street, and was the first all steel and stone structure in the city of Joliet. And whereas by October 3rd, 1895, four years after the first church was enacted, Saint Joseph Parish built and opened Saint Joseph Catholic School. And whereas in 1938, Father Matthias J. Butello became the fourth pastor and began to develop St. Joe's St. Joseph's Park. And whereas on June 30, or June 20th, 1940, Babe Ruth played an exhibition game celebrating the opening of St. Joseph's Park on Theodore Street and Rayner Avenue Avenue. And whereas a celebration mass for the hundred and thirty-fifth anniversary will be held on May 17th, which is two weeks from now. Now therefore, I, Terry Darcy, mayor of the City of Joliet, Illinois, on behalf of the Juliet City Council, do here by recognize Saint Joseph's Parish and congratulate them on their 135th anniversary. And it is beautiful. And I hope we're around for another hundred and thirty-five years lighting up the north side of downtown and the city center, lighting up the south side, because it's beautiful.
