The Joplin Board of Appeals convened on May 22, 2026, to review multiple properties on the dangerous building list, hear progress reports, grant permit extensions, and conduct three dangerous building hearings. The board addressed 19 agenda items, ordering demolition for three structures and continuing the majority of cases for further progress reports or demolition hearings.
Consent Calendar
- Minutes Approval: The board unanimously approved the minutes from the April 24, 2026 meeting (motion by Mr. Windsor, second by Mr. Brown).
Discussion Items
- 3104 – 1909 West 15th Street: The owner reported substantial progress, including plumbing nearly complete and porch framing started. The permit was set to expire May 27, 2026. The board approved a 90-day permit extension and continued the item to June 26, 2026 for a progress report and possible demolition hearing.
- 3112 – 408 West 4th Street: Jessica, representing the owners, stated the property is being sold but not publicly listed; offers have been below asking. Staff had prepared the file for demolition. The board granted a 30-day continuation to June 26, 2026, with a strong warning to list the property openly or face demolition.
- 3120 – 530 East 7th Street: Owner Angela detailed extensive difficulty obtaining demolition bids from contractors. The board offered the option of a city-bid demolition via consent agreement.
