The Joplin City Council held its regular meeting on March 2, 2025, at city hall. All eight members present (one absent) addressed a range of topics including elevator modernization, economic development updates, public complaints on animal control, multiple ordinances and resolutions, and board appointments. The meeting concluded with a vote to enter closed session.
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the regular council meeting of the Joplin City Council. Let's open this meeting. Ms. Forsythe. Gracious God, as we come to you this day to begin another session of the Joplin City Council, we ask that you impart upon us your wisdom and guidance so that we may promote justice, assist those in need, and provide for the overall well-being of the citizens of Joplin. Amen. Amen. Thank you. Mrs. Carlin, you have some guests for us this evening. I do. When a child is seriously ill or injured, the entire family needs support. And this was the understanding that led to the first Ronald McDonald House established in Philadelphia in 1974. Due to the passion and preservation and the perseverance of the Jennings family, the four states received approval for their first Ronald McDonald House in 1996. Today, hundreds of families are served by this program, this house, these volunteers, and they serve the essential needs of families who are in their greatest time of need at both Mercy Hospital and Freeman Hospital. And yet we must never forget that achieving Ronald McDonald House's mission of removing barriers and strengthening families and promoting healing when children need health care depends upon the support of an entire community. And so this year you can show your support by walking, running, strolling, volunteering, in any way participating in the St. Patrick's Day 5K run that's being presented by TAMCO Building Products, and it's free to everyone in the entire community. It will take place on March 15th in downtown Joplin. So as we asked the Ronald McDonnell House volunteers and staff to lead us in the pledge, we want to thank them for their work for their support in keeping families close together in their times of greatest need. Thank you, Ronald McDonald House, for coming and doing that for us this evening. I am fortunate that I have been to that house that we have here out by Freeman Hospital multiple times. If you ever get an opportunity to go check it out, it is amazing. It is beautiful. The work they do there is fantastic. And I've also been to the one over at Mercy Hospital as well. And thank God we have things like that in our community. And I want to I I just want to take this opportunity. She has taken it upon herself to introduce different things that we have going on in our community, different programs, different uh organizations that are doing great things in our community. So what you're doing, Mrs. Carlin is absolutely wonderful. Thank you very much for it. Roll call. Mr. Barr. Present. Ms. Carlin. Present. Mr. Koppel. Present. Mr. Ditar. Present. Dr. Farnham.
