Call to order this city Joplin City Council meeting May 5th, 2025. Ms. Forsyth. Gracious God, as we come to you this day to begin another session of the Joplin City Council, we ask that you impart upon us your wisdom and guidance so that we may promote justice, assist those in need, and provide for the overall well-being of the citizens of Joplin. Amen. Yes, this evening, our guests here to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance are members of the executive team, the board, the volunteer group of the Joplin Humane Society. The Joplin Humane Society has been committed to the welfare of our community since 1948. And each year, over 3,000 animals are adopted, and approximately 700 pets are returned and reunited with their owners. They distribute an excess of 2500 pounds of food, as well as crates, collars, leads, leashes to owners who are in need. And it doesn't stop there. The Joplin Humane Society receives almost 6,000 stray animals per year. They have a public spay and neuter clinic to help control unwanted litters. And the shelter sterilized last year over 6,000 700 dogs and cats for the public. And they partner with the city of Joplin. And a lot of people don't realize what an integral partner they are with the city of Joplin to shelter the animals that the city picks up, to neuter, spade, and also reunite with pet owners when dogs are loose and the city picks them up. So they are very much a part of our community as a city. The Joplin Humane Society, they're more than just an animal shelter because they are a vital resource to everyone in our community. And if you'll please welcome this evening and thank you for your tireless efforts for adoptions, reunions, spade neutering initiatives, and community outreach as you look to the future where every pet has a loving home. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands. Indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Roll call. Mr. Barr. Present. Present.
