The Joplin City Council held its regular meeting on October 20, 2025, addressing a regional transit study, winter weather preparedness, concerns about homelessness, and the adoption of the fiscal year 2026 budget. The meeting included presentations, public comments, and votes on multiple ordinances.
Good evening and welcome to the regular meeting of the Joplin City Council. For Monday, October 20th, 2025. Mrs. Nash. Eternal God, as we begin another meeting of the Joplin City Council, we ask that you invest in this body, your strength and wisdom to fortify us and guide us so that we may enhance the prosperity of our community and improve the quality of life for those we serve. Amen. Mrs. Carlin, I believe you have some guests with us this evening. I do, but you all would like to come up to the podium. We have guests this evening from Vita Nova Village to lead us in the pledge. Vita Nova Village is not a not-for-profit organization committed to fighting homelessness in our area by providing a planned community of safe and dignified housing. Their mission is to give people a hand up, not a hand out. And by creating this foundation of a home where they can rebuild their lives and contribute back to their community. And Rhonda Thompson, will you please lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the cloud of the United States of America. One nation under God. Thank you. Thank you. How about a round of applause for the efforts of Vita Nova Village? I was speaking with Rhonda briefly before the meeting began, and she was kind of updating me on where they are on the construction front. And when I drove by there today, I seen some new dirt on the site, and we're getting ready to have some foundations poured out there. Walls are being built off site. And I am sure I am absolutely positive if you are moved by what they're doing over at Vita Nova Village, they will take your check. I am I just feel really good about being able to say that and it being true. Roll call. Mr. Bard. Present. Ms. Carlin. Present. Mr. Coppel. Present. Mr. Ditarr. Present. Dr. Farnum. Present. Mr. Jackson. Present. Mr. Lawson. Present. Mr. Shaw. President. Mayor Cortez.
