The Joplin City Council held its regular meeting on January 5, 2026, covering a wide range of topics including a presentation on the solid waste procurement process, the Chamber of Commerce quarterly update, the Charter Review Commission final report, multiple public hearings on zoning changes, and a series of ordinance approvals. The meeting also featured public comments on homelessness, food sharing, and the city's enforcement of camping ordinances, as well as a discussion on placing Proposition B (property sales tax renewal) on the ballot.
Good evening and welcome to the regular meeting of Joplin City Council for Monday, January 5th, 2026. Everyone please rise. Mrs. Nosh. Eternal God. As we begin another meeting of the Joplin City Council, we ask that you invest in this body your strength and wisdom to fortify us and guide us so that we may enhance the prosperity of our community and improve the quality of life for those we serve. Amen. Thank you. Mrs. Carlin, you have some special guests with us this evening. Yes, I do. This evening, we're pleased to welcome the Joplin Little Theater to lead us in the pledge. This is one of our stories that we don't tell often enough. But this story begins with a barn on the outskirts of town. And eighty-five years later, the Joplin Little Theater is the oldest continuously running volunteer theater group west of the Mississippi. It's a place where generations of performers, volunteers, and audiences have gathered to tell stories, build skills, and create shared experiences. I I know I remember from for my son, we always set our summer calendar by theater camp. After a significant period of structural renovation recently, Joplin Little Theater officially opens its doors this Thursday through Sunday, January 8th through 11th, with a production of Come Back to the Five and Done, Jimmy Dean. Jimmy Dean. In addition, JLT has launched a campaign to fix the framework fund the future to support the historic preservation of the theater. Your tax-deductible donation will assure the life of this Joplin landmark as part of the cultural fabric of our community. So go to the theater this weekend. Thank you. That's right. I'm fortunate that I was able to be in a play at Joplin Little Theater in the winter of 2022. If you are a budding thesbian, you should go out to the theater and try out for some of the stuff they have going on out there. It will be some of the hardest stuff you've ever done in your life. Thank you, Mrs. Carlin, for always making sure we have special guests to help us with the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call. Mr. Bard. Ms. Carlin. Present. Mr. Koppel. Present. Mr. Ditarr. Present.
